Where are they now?
Quite simply, the cream of British "indie" pop music from the last decade.Gene are absolute kings of what they do (sorry, did). They are the very keepers of melody and only relinquish it in small, poetic bursts, when their songs call for it.This DVD was shot in front of a slightly unappreciative, American audience, but is still a great testimony to the songwriting power of the band and a great showcase for the sublime guitar wizardry of Steve Mason (although it's unfair to single out any one member of this band for praise).Look, if you love music with melody, that puts a defiant lump in your throat .. this is the band that you've been waiting for. They've now split up (or so I read), which is a great shame. Before the record companies forget them too, buy this DVD and all their back catalogue, for that matter. Genius like theirs doesn't just grow on trees, afterall!

Blinding
I have a few Gene albums now. I saw them live too. This album was the reason. I was in a music shop when they were playing this album over the in shop system and I brought it on impulse. Frankly, it is a blinding album with loads of great songs full of emotion and guitar riffs. The only slight whine I have is that it is quiet recording. (It is a Netcast recording)If you can cope with turning up your speakers slightly, then it is well worth the price.Gene come alight when playing live, and it shows if you listen to this album. It outshines anything they have done in a studio.Like Gay Dad mixed with Bowie via Guitar heaven. I liked it, I imagine you would too.

CD is better
Got this DVD after feeling nostalgic shortly after seeing Gene's next to last ever show. Had the CD for a few years and loved it, but this doesn't somehow measure up. On the whole the performance sees the band subdued- especially Martin Rossiter, something i've never witnessed live, and you can't help but feel " c'mon lads, turn it up a notch and show those american idiots" The music is brilliant but i'd opt for Gene Live at Sheffield to capture them as well as you can on DVD.
