Delightful Read
I love the Mrs. Murphy Mysteries! This book is a delightful read from beginning to end. If you love animals, mysteries, or Virginia, this will be a book for you.

history mystery
i have been reading the mrs murphy series. taken as a series this book adds some back ground and color to the town and residents of the town.the history on pres jefferson was interesting and the background of the time in which he lived was informative. the who done it was notapparent until the ending of the story, which i always like. This is a fun read, which can be well followed on 10 minute reads at a time. not the most exciting, cant put it down book, but i did not buy it for that.

Historically interesting and Humorous.
Murder at Monticello is my favorite of Rita Mae Brown's novels. It is so well plotted. I have read it numerous times and never tire of its convoluted characters and their lives which intertwine in the history of Monticello and the people of the eighteenth century. Although fictitious but using many relevant facts,Murder At Monticello presents a look at racial discrimination and more need for racial diversity that is greatly needed as much now as in our past history .

A historical mystery that seems impossible to solve
I really liked the historical murder mystery on Thomas Jefferson's property while also getting entangled with modern mysteries. Some of the things that happen in the book have recently happened in my life so it hit home for me. Overall great. Some people say it's the worst in the series but as I'm reading through, I didn't think it was bad at all; it may even be better than the first two.

Review of "Murder at Monticello"
Being a cat lover anyway, the tiger cat, Mrs. Murphy and Pewter, the overweight gray cat, are a delight to read about as they go about helping their owner solve murders that seem to occur pretty frequently in the small town in Virginia where the stories are set. The cats have a friend who also helps solve the mysteries, a Corgi named T. Tucker. The stories are interesting, the characters are well formed and I enjoy Rita Brown's series about Sneaky Pie, a cat she got from a pound who was so intelligent she inspired the series.

As expected
I enjoy the world Ms. Brown has created, and do like living in it for a while. It's challenging to have murder mysteries with a small cast of characters, and if you don't read them in order you'll know who didn't do it, since they may appear in later books. The conservative rants get to be a bit much, but I suppose that's consistent with the characters, and it's interesting to observe contradictions. For example, tobacco farming was subsidized (like most farming is), so grumbling about the gov'mint ruining it is amusing. I would have liked to hear specifics about the changes in regulation that ruined the horse industry, though, according to the characters in her book.

Good book.
I read it to an elderly blind friend who also has some forgetfulness. I do refresh the cast of characters for her each time I read the next chapter of the book.

Loved books 1 and 2...
I didn’t much care for this installment of the series, which is highly unfortunate as I adore Jefferson, mysteries, and animals... I think this book just had too much going on. Too many characters in the present and the past - and too many story lines to try to keep straight. Then it felt like there was a murder in every other chapter near the end. And what was with some of the character traits shifting? I will continue to read the series, and I hope the next book improves.

Poor quality binding and boring story.
I did not enjoy this third book of the series and did not finish reading it; we all know of the injustices in society two hundred years ago. The characters' names I found to be very silly; puerile. Pharamond and Rick Shaw--Really??This mass market copy has a serious flaw--the text is printed too close to the page edges and the first word of every line is covered in the binding and must be guessed at.I found the plot very boring and the author's point of view blatant. I hope that the next book in the series sticks to the town's citizens and more of the animals (i.e. much more of Sneaky Pie's input) and less of social class snobbery.
