Sachiyo Ishii has created 27 delightful mini knitted creatures and a safari mat, arched gateway, four-by-four and camper van to complete the scene. It is easy to knit with one basic pattern and sewing up guide for most of the animals, and uses small amounts of readily available yarn. There are clear, simple knitting patterns and step by step photographs and instructions for all other techniques such as sewing up, stuffing and basic embroidery. I’m hoping to knit them all for my grandson to play with when he visits. There is even a knitted safari mat and a few other props. The patterns would also be good for a Noah’s Ark, just knit two of each animal! Well packaged and delivered promptly. I am delighted with my purchase. Mini knitted safari, a great little book!
Great little book. Delivered today and I’ve already knitted the polar bear - although I haven’t sewn it up yet! Easy to follow instructions, and I like that the animals are shaped in their true form and aren’t just knitted teddies. Lots of scope to improvise, even for a not too experienced knitter - and gorgeous illustrations! The finished animals are quite small but that is what I was looking for. I’m hoping to knit them all for my grandson to play with when he visits. There is even a knitted safari mat and a few other props. Great for travelling and waiting.
Nice small size. Well written and illustrated. Keeps hands busy creating when waiting or travelling. Great stocking stuffers or gifted garlands for nursery decor. Travel well in a child's knapsack. Make up stories using these instead of more screen time for little ones.

Darling patterns, perfect for a Mobile to hang over a crib!
Very very cute - tiny toys are perfect for constructing a mobile to hang over a crib to entertain a little one...which is why I ordered this. All projects use DK yarn (or 8 ply - book is published in Great Britain). I'm pretty sure that if you wanted toys larger than the typical 2 - 4" ones in the book, you could simply use a heavier weight such as worsted and you get a larger toy. I'm a life long knitter with professional knitwear design experience and I've looked over the instructions carefully. They are written row by row, clear and usually are single page with photos on the opposite page. I appreciate that there are multiple photos of each toy which will help in placing decorative finishing stitches. Over all - this is a very nice book and I think an excellent value. 27 different breeds of animals with several sizes (Cubs) in many, plus some bonus patterns for camper vehicles and an arched entry for a safari camp. Very cute. I'm totally happy with this book!
