Covers rebuild if you have the skills
This is an excellent book with all the teardown, inspect, replace and rebuild steps with some really good pictures and great checklist in the back. This is aIF you have a basic understanding of engine parts and have experience with working on engines, this is an excellent resource more medium level experienced shop mechanics. It is not for beginners with zero experience. If your still asking what a lifter is, forget it, your not ready. If your looking for the book specific for a Chevy Core Rebuild, and this might be your first Chevy or a good refresher reference This is the book for you. I've got other books for high performance Chevy V8 builds and mods advance build, but those are way beyond this level and full of advertisements.

Very practial!
I am a former mechanic (stopped working in the field about 30 years ago). This was a great refresher and an easy to read step by step guide. I would kick my self every time I would move ahead without reading it first since it contains so many tips-of-the trade -- both things I forgot and things I never knew.

First time engine pull and rebuild. This book helped a ton.
This book was really helpful. I used it when pulling out a blown 350 from my 77 Chevy k20. Lots of pictures with detailed information and helpful mechanic tips that save time and money. This book saved my bacon a couple of times and kept me from getting ahead of myself in tear down phase. Would definitely recommend to anyone looking to work on an SBC for the first time.

A good garage addition
All of Larry Schriebs books are pretty thorough and can be trusted to deliver as promised. The info is standard and not really new but then again I am an old hotrodder who has seen most of what this book contains many times over. The SA books are all very good.

Great Book
I'm building up my 1984 Chevy 305 small block. This book and it's pictures clear up a lot of confusing info.

Not as good as I had expected
I just wanted a book to reference various things like torque specs, etc. I thought this would be a great reference to have around.... I pretty much read the whole thing over and it's not nearly as thorough as I had hoped for the price. Another thing I do not like about it is how there is obviously some bias opinions about various products throughout the entire book. Complete sell out. That said, the pages are all glossy and are great for the garage since if/when they get oil/grease on them they clean up pretty well. Nothing in this book is definitive as it does not cover a wide enough range of possibilities. I also found that the information in this book is scattered all over and there is no index. Not a whole lot of thought went into this book. I would not buy it again.
