Must be calibrated! As shipped is very inaccurate - reads 200 degrees in boiling water.
Your browser does not support HTML5 video. This thermometer is not accurate as shipped. It fails the boiling water test. Boiling water is 212 degrees at sea level (where we are) but our thermometer read 200 degree when left in boiling water for over a minute. Got to 200 and stopped. See short video I uploaded showing thermometer at 200 while sitting in boiling water.Luckily it can be calibrated by using a wrench to hold the hex nut on the back while turning the dial so that the reported temp is correct. It is not easy to do this when the thermometer is sitting in boiling water, so be very careful while doing this!First find a wrench that fits the nut on the back of the thermometer. Then mount thermometer on small pot w/boiling water, and wait for thermometer to settle down at whatever temp it's reporting. If it is not pointing at the 100C/212F marker on the dial, then turn off the heat, and using hot pads or thermal protecting gloves, remove thermometer from pot and use wrench to hold nut on the bottom while you turn the dial on the top until the temp indicator points at the 100c/212f indicator on the dial. That's it. Hopefully it will then be accurate at other temperatures as well...

A rip off
Did not work. Showed my oil was over 500F but when I put a dough there was no sizzling. It was off by almost 200F

Worth the money!
You will like the way that this thermometer can fit a pan of any depth. It is not waterproof, so I would not immerse it in water to clean it. I wipe it off after each use, cleans easily. I have not used another device to check its accuracy but it seems to be pretty close. A good buy. Good product!

Look at product before you open package.
Received my new thermometer in time for a dinner party, which is going to have fried foods on the menu.Tore open the package in excitement only to find that it does not work. The dial sets at 500 degrees. I put it in ice and boiling water, thinking it was stuck, but it never moved to read the temp.

Accuracy was disappointing
Terrible accuracy. I bought these to replace the ones I have had for years. They read 50 degrees off from each other. I ended up having to use my old one to verify my tenp

"Best Buy"
A very nice thermometer at a bargain price. I bought two, used one on my BBQ and my wife uses the second one in the ktichen.

Seems to work well
My previous thermometer got wet inside. this one appears accurate. I sued it to cook a 16 lb. turkey today.

Deep fryer thermostat
I used my deep fryer thermometer for a new indoor turkey fryer I got and It worked perfect. It clamped on to the large lip of the fryer easier then other thermostats.
