Make Us Dream: The Story of Liverpool's 2013/14 Season

Superb review of an epic season!
Absolutely brilliant!! -I think it will take me years to get over the emotions of last season, but this book was a massive step in the right direction and hopefully my rehabilitation. The subject matter is one close to my heart as I participated as much as anyone in the highs and lows described in this brilliant depiction of what supporting Liverpool was like last season. The building belief throughout the season - and the tiny margins that ultimately determined the destiny of the league title - told through the lens of normal matchgoing lads and girls. The core protagonists of this book broadcast regularly on the subjects directly and indirectly associated with supporting England's most successful football team, so the quality of the content is no surprise. What was a surprise is how well it transported me back to the season just ended. Not just the seat in the stadium, but the anxious mornings trying to stomach a matchday breakfast. The mid and post-match release of euphoria. The spectacular pre-match welcome of the home coach. The post-match parties that lit up the city. This multiple point of view travelogue of one of the most memorable season's in most Liverpool fan's adult lives reminds of the joy that last year brought. It also provides brilliant context to the crushing disappointment in the closing fortnight of the season. I have been incapable of watching a season review fully yet as the emotions are still a little raw - 'Make Us Dream' enabled me to relive the most enjoyable season of my adult match-going life. Apart from the main authors' contributions added colour comes in the form of testimony from Martin Fitzgerald, Gareth Roberts, Kate Forrester, Ben McCausland, Phil Blundell and Mike Nevin. All providing unique perspectives on this remarkable term. The book captures for me the thing that I have found most difficult to articulate this summer, that the tears shed this season were of course linked to the disappointment of failing to bring home the first League title since 1990, but equally so they were tears of pride. These lads made us dream - and I'd rather have another 50 seasons like last year than another one where top 6 is the limit that you permit yourself to hope for.The book is published in chronological order and as a consequence - it works as a linear narrative but you can easily dip in and out like a reference book - picking crucial games and digesting as bit sized chunks. A brilliant book and worthy of your time as well as your cash!

Fantastic
I was born several years after our last league title, and to come so close and fall just short this season was devastating. However, this book perfectly captures every emotion from within the stands, to at home in front of the telly. It's genuine, passionate and relatable, and relives every emotion that we experienced throughout the season-the optimism then fear of the reality; the realisation that we were the real deal, and then that nerve wracking title challenge. The recalls of the highs, such as against City, United, Spurs, Arsenal and so on, are still utterly euphoric, but as a result, the lows remain completely heart breaking, filled with 'what ifs' and that feeling of what could have been. However, I think the personal stories from the many authors are what sets it apart from your average season review book or DVD.What also hit me from the book was the restored feeling of belonging and pride in the club and city alike. It made me realise the sheer scale of liverpoolfc, from a 95,000 strong crowd in Melbourne last summer, to international reds who will adjust their lives around catching matches on tv, from thousands of miles away. The reality is that you don't have to have a season ticket at Anfield to have the sense of belonging that this team can give you; the acceptance that whatever your background, you can proudly say you are Liverpool. The authors are not just writing about the match, the tactics, the squad and the like-they are telling you the stories of their lives from August to May, because essentially that's what Liverpool becomes. What's been put together is a truly fantastic book and record of what was a memorable season, and one that I can safely say I would live all over again. I'm hoping I can see a few more like last season in the years to come...

Relive the dream!
Liverpool's 2013/14 team scaled the heights of greatness, defying convention and blitzing teams seemingly at will but ultimately falling agonisingly short at the final hurdle. This story of the 2013/14 season from Neil Atkinson and John Gibbons gives a supporter's perspective of the season's journey from pre-season through to the glorious charge for the title. The writing is superb and gloriously captures the mood in the stands and in the city as the season progresses. There is also real football insight, the writers offer intelligent analysis of the football and provide perceptive comment on the modern game. This book transports you back to the season when Liverpool made us dream again and anything seemed possible!5 Stars!

one of the first Lfc books I've read all the way through
Been a fan of TAW since the 2010 season. Thanks to them my knowledge of LFC and football in general has grown. They've made me think deferentially about how football was and is.Both Neil & John strike you as people you want to chat football with. You just want to chat football with for hours. I've got many a Liverpool Fc book on my kindle, never get round to finishing them for many a reasons. However this book just draws you back to reading it even though you know the twist at the end! It's great because a new chapter begins, and you're trying to guess who's wrote it from their writing style. Love that about the book.I've now finished the book, and Amazon has just asked me to rate it out of 5 stars. I gave it 4 because it's what i gave Liverpool Football club last season. The only thing that would of made this book 5 stars, would of been some lovely photos so you could of relived last season .Here's to the tricky follow up book of 2014/15 season.

A truly magnificent, passionate and uplifting reminder of an epic season!
I've been listening to The Anfield Wrap podcast since it started and the authors have taken much of the enthusiasm, intellect and insight they regularly display on there and added to it in this brilliant series of match reviews, debates and discussions around Liverpool's magical season which saw them so close to winning the league title. I cannot recommend this book highly enough to any fellow Liverpool fan - supporters of other teams should buy it too, just to see what they are missing!

Read this book.
You're probably only going to read this book if you're a Liverpool fan with some recollection of the 13/14 season, and good on you, you're going to have a brilliant time, but it doesn't have to be this way. This is the story of a team assembled of equal parts insanity and genius playing the best season of football that may have ever happened. There shouldn't just be a book about this season there should be a movie and a mini-series, a teleplay whatever that is, songs, poems, and a PlayStation game of experiencing this season whilst trying to maintain your sanity but if there is to be a book this is the best book there could be. I find people talking with passion and knowledge on a subject fascinating regardless of the subject and these lads tick both boxes. I already loved this team, this season, and these lads, but you could too. Read this book.

Great review of season. Great insight into the emotional highs and some lows of people supporting club.
I've supported LFC since 2010. This book is a great review of the season and also helps you visualize the supporters and the excitement of the city growing as the season progresses. All the writers contribute an incredible enthusiam to the book. It's not a blind rah rah type...it's genuine and you can picture it while you're reading. You realizing quickly how much each loves the club. It's motivated me even more to watch a match at Anfield but also to explore the city of Liverpool as well. Because the city is what makes the club tick. Exciting times ahead.

Essential read for any Reds' fan
Enjoyable and engrossing all the way, the crew from the Anfield wrap bring us along on their journey through the historic 13/14 season. The stories are told through the perspective of supporters who live and breath Liverpool fc. In the end, you are left wondering how we lost our way so horribly the very next season. However, the memories of thrashing Man U and Arsenal, dispatching Man City in the best game of the season, and celebrating a Merseyside Derbyshire win that is itself worth the price of the book are vivid and pulsating. Do subscribe to the TAW player and support their good work.
