I was looking for a good, cheap, long-lasting bolt cutter that I could use to cut 1/8" to slightly larger chains, cables, and protruding bolts and such. In the past I have had to use either a Dremel for bolts, nails and screws, some very heavy duty wire cutters that take a lot of effort, and a hacksaw to do all the things I can now do with this 18" Workpro bolt cutter. Usually I'd try my old, heavy duty, wire cutter on 1/8" aluminum chain, for instance, only to find that all it would do was put a dent in the link. So I'd have to go through my tools to pull out the hacksaw, then I'd have to put the link into a vice for safety and I'd hacksaw away till I cut through. This bolt cutter cuts through the same aluminum chain links as through butter (see picture). It's also good for nails and screws. The only thing it failed to do was properly cut through 1/8" wire cable, that is why I took a star off. I do not recommend it for multi-strand cables because all it does is mush/smash the strands together and spreading them out without really cutting. It does soften the strands a little, but then you have to go back to the cable with a heavy wire cutter to finish the job. I think the problem with cutting stranded cable is that the two cutting surfaces do not "perfectly" and "closely" align. So while they're good for solid items, the miniscule paper-width gap and tiny misalignment are enough for the wire strands to spread out in the gap without getting cut all the way through. The bolt cutter itself is heavy, sold, and seems well made. The soft plastic grips are comfortable to use. After cutting a number of aluminum chain links the cutting edge looks unfazed. I would imagine that if you tried this with stainless steel you might eventually put some nicks into it. Nonetheless, I recommend it for light-use around the house/yard/workshop.

I bought these to untangle a nightmare of a wire tumbleweed that had blown into my yard from God knows where that got wrapped around a tree. I could not get that wire off to save my life so I bought these and sat there for an hour sniffing off pieces of that wire tumble lead, and these things didn’t hurt my hand. They were easy to use their lightweight. They’re very strong very strong and I really love them. I ended up giving them to a friend after I had used them. I really didn’t have any use for them anymore. They’re great.

Was hesitant, but surprisingly sturdy. I've used it to make approximately 20 cuts of stainless steel 8mm rods (.315 inch) and there is no deformation on the jaws. Absolutely loving these! Currently using the 14" bolt cutters which their chart says will cut ~4mm of medium hardness. Stainless steel is medium-hard hardness and is prone to work hardening. If you cut the 8mm in one press, it'll cut right through. If you don't use enough force, the 8mm will work harden, but give it another umpf and it'll slice right through it regardless.

Sharp and strong enough to cut the storage pad lock my wife misplaced the key too. It has good grip and handles are long enough. Not too heavy either. It took a few tries that I’m thinking the bigger size would have made it easier.

I gave this set boat cutters at three because they only lasted about 10 months. After that, you can see that the cutting edge has rounded out. I make jewelry out of silverware and all that I am cutting is silver plated brass flatware. Brass is certainly a soft metal and these bolt cutters are not up to the task. If you’re looking for something that will last a while and all you’re doing is cutting soft metal. Buy something else.

SO easy to use, made putting up a pig wire and steel tie fence a pleasure well wort the cost.
