Geniatech ATV1200 Dual Core Android TV Box

I find the performance to be lacking. I have lots of network bandwidth and no other device on my network has issues with network performance yet this device stutters and pauses all the time while playing video. Also, I can't seem to use adblocker in chrome which is very annoying. Viewing news sites and watching their video is a very poor experience.

After doing a little research and discovering that Geniatech is the top producer or Streaming Media Players outside of Apple TV and Roku I figured I would give one a shot. I figured if it's true and they've really sold 1.5 million units worldwide, they must know what they are doing. So I took the plunge and purchased the Geniatech ATV1200.Now I've tried several other units from different manufactures. Some off brands I found on Amazon and eBay. Non have worked as good as the Geniatech ATV1200 has right out of the box. Most other units have week Wifi and end up requiring your to hook them up via Ethernet in order to stream video content. Running Ethernet cable can be a real pain if your Router our Modem is not nearby. In addition I've found other units I've tested to have buggy firmware or software installed.To give you an example, the last unit I had purchased was from a company called Mele. It was their M8 unit. It's a good looking unit with decent specs, but that's where things ended. Once I hooked it up to my TV and tried to load some basic XBMC ad-ons it just crashed. At this point I've yet to get this unit to stream anything. Now I suppose I could try to find a solution to get it to work, but spending hours and hours searching the internet is more than I'm will to do. I've already spent way more time than I've should of researching and learning about these media streaming boxes that I care to admit.The Geniatech ATV1200 played XBMC, Netflix, Hulu and Pandora perfectly right out of the box. Just loaded my favorite ad-ons to XMBC and I was off to the races. No crashes or anything, just smooth playback of both standard and high def streaming content even using my Wifi.Summary:If you in the market for a Android powered Media Streaming Device the ATV1200 is the way to go. It worked out of the box with little effort.Buying Advice:1. Try and stay away from Media Streaming Devices that are using the Allwinner and RockChip processors. The ARM Cortex Chip is the preferred CPU at this time. The Mali 400 GPU and soon to be released Mali 450 GPU are the preferred Graphic Processer at this time.2. Purchase from US based Vendors only. They typically stand behind the product they sell and offer some type to tech support. Plus if you ever need to return the item and expect a refund their easier to deal with.3. Buy an air mouse with a full keyboard, you'll be happy you did!4. Buy a device that has been rooted (unlocked) so you can install your favorite apps without restrictions.5. Only purchase a Apple TV or Roku if you have intentions of Jail Breaking or modifying, otherwise you won't be able to run apps like XBMC.

Erst mal vorab: Das Geraet wurde bereits zurueckgesendet und durch ein Minnix Neo X5 ersetzt.Die ATV1200 war als Ersatz fuer meinen Mac Mini gedacht und sollte folgende Aufgaben erledigen:1. Skypen2. Videos/Fotos/Musik von der Netzwerkfestplatte spielen3. Im Internet surfen koennen+ Das Geraet ist klein und passt auch designmaessig ins Wohnzimmer+ Web Videos (youtube, Flashvideos, etc.) funktioniert sehr gut, Videos vom Netzwerk funktionierte aber nur mit SW Decoder- Die Einrichtung war schon eine Herausforderung, irgendwie kam er nicht mit dem DHCP Server meiner Fritzbox zurecht und ich musste erst mal eine statische IP Adresse vergeben (musste erst mal wieder in meinen Netzwerkgrundlagen nachschlagen). Per WLAN ging gar nix!- Skype ging noch ohne Kamera, aber beim Versuch einen Videoanruf zu starten (mit angegebener Logitechkamera) ist die Skype App immer abgestuerzt (geht mit dem Neo X5).- Das Geraet musste mehrmals waehrend dem Einrichten und spaeter im Betrieb neu gestartet werden, also noch nicht stabil.- Bluetooth hab ich vermisst, also habe ich mir einen Dongle gekauft. Der wurde auch erkannt. Jetzt wollte ich meine Apple Mouse und meine Apple Tastatur anschliessen, diese wurden auch erkannt und gepaired, ein Betrieb war leider nicht moeglich (mit dem Neo X5 geht es einwandfrei)- Der Hardware Decoder funktionierte leider auch nicht so richtig, wenn dieser aktiviert war gingen die Videos leider nur noch im FastForward.Fazit: Die Idee ist sehr gut, die Technik noch nicht soweit. Android ist als Betriebssystem fuer einen Wohnzimmerrechner noch nicht 100% geeignet. Auch der Neo X5 geht noch nicht fluessig (manche Apps lassen sich halt nur mit Touchscreen richtig bedienen), aber die oben angegebenen Punkte habe ich beim Neo nicht entdeckt. Im Grossen und Ganzen ist es ein Vorteil wenn man sich mit Linux oder dann eben mit Android Systemen auskennet, das erleichtert das Einrichten und bedienen, also nichts fuer Technikanfaenger. Ich denke nach einigen Updates wirds schon besser werden. Zwei Punkte weil auf dem richtigen Weg, aber einschalten und loslegen ist nicht.
