Q: Do they fit wide feet well?

Umm, not unless they come in a wide width. I have narrow feet and they fit snugly.

Q: so does the zipper eventually loosen up and slide much easier in time?

I don't use the zipper on these. I had purchased a pair and used the zipper and the zipper would not stay up, so with this pair I don't use. I hope this helps.

Q: Out of the box these squeak so loud on the hardwood floor I'm afraid to keep them. Anyone else have this issue? They are OK on the carpet.

I think they did the same for me, but they stopped squeaking after a short amount of time

Q: Where do the laces go?

Thank you for your question, the Taos Z-Soul sneaker laces up like regular shoes and ties into a bow. Once the laces are secure you can zip them on and off. As for the images of the shoes, it looks like the laces are tucked into the shoe. Sam Roxanne's Birkenstock
