## Description

This sturdy wood transfer board will help transfer people from wheelchair to bed, chair, car or commode. The sealed and coated board allows easy transfers to help the patient slide across the glossy surface. The board is also valuable as a mobility aid for those who are living independently and need assistance transferring place to place. To use a transfer board - Position one end of the board on the starting point and the other end on the destination to which you want to transfer such as the bed, chair, car or wheel chair. The tapered ends should be facing up to help the person slide onto the board. Try to keep the board as level as possible and be sure to lock any wheelchairs in place. Help the person onto the board then assist them as they slide across it in short movements. We highly recommend using the DMI Gait Belt in conjunction with this board to help assist moving the person. Be sure the person is dry to avoid any friction while transferring. Always consult a trained professional if there are questions about using a transfer board. Only attempt using if you have been properly trained.

**Q: Pros and cons of 1 slot vs. 2 and which size this--or shorter for smallish elderly lady, very limited mobility?**
A: I don't think the number of slots matters. You can just choose to use a slot or not. If you only have 1 slot, you can position it on the side where you want to use it. I think the length of the board is more important. I actually use 2 different length boards for my mom. I use this one to transfer her from the wheelchair to the bed and another (shorter) one - with no slots - to transfer her from the bed to the wheelchair. I don't think the size of the person (smallish elderly lady) is as significant as the distance that you need to transfer. Hope that helps!

**Q: length of board?**
A: The board is 8" wide by 30" long & accommodates weight to 440 lbs. because it's about 3/4" thick.  My husband is 6' 1" & weighs 250+ lbs - and accommodates him.  Hope this helps!

**Q: How long is it?**
A: The product description says it is 30.3 inches long, but I measured mine at 29.5 inches.  Scroll down to the Questions and Answers section to see other peoples' answers to this question.

**Q: Is the wood sealed for easy transfer, I really can't tell from the pictures?**
A: Yes, the wood is sealed --- no chance of splinters, if that is what you were asking.  My husband is 6'1" & weighs more than 250 lbs.  This is a very strong board to accommodate him.  The price was good plus the shipping was excellent.  He used it while going to outpatient rehab in a hospital and it seems as good if not better than the ones the hospital furnishes.  You don't want to slide off it by making it as slippery as glass.
