Compact Lens Shade

This little device frees up the hand I usually use to shade my lens. I used it on one trip to sunny Spain, and it performed as advertised. It does take up some space in the camera bag and takes a minute to attach, especially because each time I pulled it out of the bag, the locking screw had completely unwound off the other end and it's a slight pain to rethread it. I have to be careful to make sure it doesn't appear in my wide-angle shots, but it adjusts easily. When not shooting, I fold it over the lens for protection.

I had been looking for a solution like this for a while, there was one available, but only through odd distribution channels. I was happy to see this being readily available on Amazon. I mainly do night photography and shooting in the city with wide angle lenses is always prone to flares from strong street lights, even if those are not in the picture. I just used this for a night shoot to capture urban startrails (see uploaded image) and the shade very successfully prevented most flares, yet can be folded to the side or close to the camera body to be out of the way when not needed. Very well made, solid quality, goose neck is desirably stiff so that the shade stays in place but is flexible enough to cover both sides and the top of most but the longest lenses. One star reduction, because I wish the goose neck was a little longer, to cover longer lens bodies as well as reach underneath the lens - when shooting straight up into the sky, the underneath is as prone to flares as the top. Highly recommended solution, though!

I am working on a documentary style TV show that shoots on a Sony Z-1U camcorder with a wide angle adapter for running around, in close quarters. I needed an eyebrow to get rid of sun glare without spending a ridiculous amount of money on a cumbersome matte-box/eyebrow rig and mount.I found this and tried it out. I have to say, I do like it and it has made shooting much easier and with a much more pleasing aesthetic. It's the right size for any camcorder/DSLR and doesn't get in the way. It's even great to throw on a larger cam body with a matte-box rig and use it to block your eyes from the sun when looking into the viewfinder.My only gripe is that it's a little sticky and if you're in the moment trying to quickly adjust it, the bendy arm may come apart. Then it's very difficult to put it back together, I've needed pliers each time. If it wasn't for that, it would be perfect. But, I still think it's worth it.

The idea is amazing. It allows me to use whatever filters without messing with trying to fit a lens hood.The execution could have been a little better. The tube sections hold firmly in place, but I was a little disappointed in the cold shoe mount. It is plastic and there is no stop on the lock ring. If you spin it quickly when unlocking it, you can back it all the way off the threaded portion. You then have to fiddle with threading it back on. Now that I know this, I just gently loosen it when I pull it off.The flag is nice and large, but the metal is a little thinner than I was expecting. I already put a minor bend in it from adjusting it's position. When moving the flag, make sure you grab the tube portion, not the flag.Overall it's a great product and solves a problem I was having. I will be getting one of the Action Pods to give me another tool in the cart.

It's clunky. It's hokey lookin'. It gets loose and flops around if you grab it and turn it the wrong way.But I'll be darned if it ain't insanely useful, easy to throw into your bag, and a zillion times cheaper than any mattebox. Just keep a phillips screw driver handy (which should be in your camera kit anyway, along with a big flat driver and a selection of allen keys, right?)

So, I have a smaller run and gun video set up. I use a screw-on variable ND and circular polarizer. I just need a flag to help control stray flares in my shots. I don't want the whole matte box set up hanging off my camera. So, I tried the Dinkum Systems Compact Lens Shade and it was awesome. You can adjust the length and it attaches to your camera's hot or cold shoe mount. The flag itself is well made of a powder coated metal. If you just want simple light control this is a fantastic tool.

Love that this keeps rain and sun off of our mevo camera when hooked to the fence at our daughter’s softball games.

この商品のようなアーム式のレンズシェードは、稼働領域に制約があり使いづらいシャフトアームの物か、フレキシブルアームがフニャフニャでちょっとでも大きめの遮光板を挟むと自重で垂れてきてしまう物ばかりで、実際の使用に耐えられないものが多い。この商品はその点でフレキシブルアームががっしりしていて、もちろん限界はありますがある程度大きな遮光板を貼り付けて使っても（この商品自体の遮光板は小さすぎるので。）自重で垂れてくる事はありません。いくつかこの手の製品を試したけれど、今のところ過不足無く使用できる製品はこれだけでした。ただし価格（このレビューを書いている時点で7160円）なりの仕上げや精度の商品ではありません。個人的な所感では2000〜3000円くらいがせいぜいといった感じです。それでもこの手のレンズシェードを探している人にとってはおそらく唯一実用的な選択では無いでしょうか？

A good idea, but the articulating arm is rigid plastic. It broke at the first link as soon as I tried to move it (like previous reviewer). Arm needs to be made more like a gorilla pods legs (which it does look like in the photo).

Einmal falsch eingepackt ging ein Gelenk auseinander, als ich es wie im Herstellervideo zusammensetzen wollte, brach (nach viel Kraftaufwand und trotz Spülmittel am Gelenkkopf) eher der Winkel am Blitzschuh. Trotz guter Idee, extrem Set-untauglich. Reklamiert und gegen Erstattung zurückgeschickt!Lob mal wieder dem Amazonkundenservice, es wurde anstandslos erstattet.
