If you think covid is bad then you definitely haven't read the Maze Runner series by James Dashner. Most people who have read the main 3 books will be surprised to know that there's not one, but two prequels in the series. The second prequel or the fifth book in the series is known as the fever code and it is an amazing book to read after the other books. It grabbed my attention because I had already read and loved the other books in the series and I wanted to know more about the story and characters. Also people who liked the Hunger Games series would love this book as they are very similar. This is a story about a virus that is moving through the world and a boy named Tomas, the main antagonist of the story, who is immune to the virus. The virus is called the flair and it infects people and makes them go crazy. The flair is an extremely dangerous virus that kills people all across a destroyed world that was struck by very bad sun flares. The remaining parts of governments created an organization called Wicked to try and find a cure for the flare as it could be the only hope for humanity's survival. Wicked takes Tomas to their main facility to test on him and try and find what makes him and others immune to it. Eventually Wicked created massive underground mazes to run life-like tests on immune people in an attempt to find the cure. Some of the best things I found about the book is how they used knowledge from previous books to help drive the story but even if you didn't read the first books it would still be a fun read. I also love how the author kept curtain details from us that made the book more suspenseful and gave us a reason for wanting to keep reading. What I did not like about the book though is how some parts of the book felt like they were not important at all and made you want to skip reading that part of the book, but the author eventually pulled everything together. I also did not like how much the author repeated themselves even if it is an important part of the plot. I think this book would appeal to people who like books that have an element of suspense and action. It is a better read after you have read the other books in the series as this book has a bit more story than the others but explains them excellently. Overall I think this was an amazing book that really adds a lot to the series. It is particularly great to read after you've read the other books in the series. The plot is engaging, entertaining and is relevant to today’s current events. This book shows that some things can be worse than covid.

One of my favourite books in this series. Secrets will be uncovered and you will get to know some of the characters names before they enter the maze. You also get a look in Newt's life before WICKED. A must for all Maze Runner fans.
