I first became familiar with Hammer Stahl, when Food and Wine magazine had a special on the santoku knife for $25. Although, I had a Wustof set, that knife quickly became my favorite. Since then, about 8 years ago, I had been wanting the full set. Hammer Stahl would have it on sale each year around Christmas for 1/2 off. I finally purchased it at Christmas. I absolutely love these knives. The craftsmanship is impeccable. I have small hands and ergonomically, these are easy for me to handle. Also, because this is hardened steel, they stay sharp and cut easily. I like that the handles are made of real wood. They are just a beautiful piece of art in the kitchen.

These are great extremely sharp knives. They keep their edge after multiple uses. The one thing I do not like is the block, it is not as shown in the sales photo (false advertising). The knives are sideways making it very awkward to pull the knives out. If I would have known this was the case I would have gone to a brick & mortar seller. Other than the block I would highly recommend the knives. If I could get a replacement block I would give this rating 5 stars.

21 pc. Hammer Stahl Kitchen Knives I ordered Zwilling J.A. Hencksel originally but the quality was not of past known craftsmanship. I chose to order these beauties "Hammer Stahl" these knives are so sharp you have to be extremely careful. The kitchen is my bedroom and these knives are of the highest quality & craftmanship. Your great great grandkids will be using them. I also purchased Sardels' cookware to go with these. Extremely happy will my purchases. You won't be disappointed.

We had purchased one knife last year and it sliced beautifully, I had my old set of knives for 20 years and wanted to upgrade since I love to cook. My husband really did his research and we decided on the full set of Hammer Stahl. I can’t tell you the difference it makes, slices like butter. Life is Good.

It was very disheartening to see 'Made in China' on the box. When you pay over a thousand dollars for a cutlery set that has built a reputation of being top of the line German knives, it's definitely a let down to see that on the box.

I love these knives! I use them for personal use. I would have chosen a different knife block though. I have 2 other knives that match that don't have a home.

Beautiful, very expensive knife set, but the pins through the handle stick out.

I purchased these knives over the Wusthof knives as I felt they were both German high quality knives but the Hammer Stahl are more appealing in design. The knives arrived, eventually - the shipper sent the knives FedEx and required an adult, in person signature which I was not aware, so I had to take a day off to be home to meet the FedEx driver. Still, I was thrilled to get the knives and was very happy that they arrived undamaged! My disappointment came when I began unwrapping the knives and found that every knife has varying degrees of burrs felt on the handles. It is from the brass rivets that secure the handle inlays to the open full tang. As a knife collector, I had seen this on some cheaper knives (folding and fixed blades) I had not found this on German manufactured knives and yet all of the knives had this issue. It was in my rush to open the set and inspect for shipping damages that I overlooked the box that read what you see above in the photo. I was crushed. While I paid much less than what some poor saps are getting charged, I still feel this set was not worth the money. I would have paid double for true German craftsmanship. The design is beautiful, the knives have a nice weight, I love the design of the block. It is really only the rivets that allow rough spots in the handles. It is really a shame that Hammer Stahl has designed such a nice set all to ruin it by cheap final assembly. The steel may be German but the box says it all - Made in China.

Everything i was expecting and more. One of the best part of these knives are the handles, none of the pictures or videos i had seen online do them justice. Absolutely beautiful! Transitions between the wood and the tang are just about seamless and hard to pick out by feel. All came super sharp and packaged up great to make sure they stayed that way during shipping.
