Got this to replace a hose bib in my garage that was leaking during use. Ordinarily, I’d take the old part with me to the hardware store to compare when buying a replacement, but you can’t exactly do that online. So, to be clear, the eight inch dimension refers to the distance from the back of the mounting plate to the beginning of the hex shape on the interior end. It’s almost another inch to the actual end of the threads. (And this product is threaded—make sure that’s what you want because there are other options out there.) I don’t think anyone makes a nine inch version, but I did expend some effort trying to confirm this was the right length before ordering. I wish they’d post a data sheet in the product listing.You might not think it would be a big deal, but quarter-turn really is more convenient compared to the old multi-turn style. I’ve had quarter-turn in other locations around my house for a while, but this particular unit is replacing a multi-turn one and I’m actually fairly happy to not have to deal with all the turning. Especially if you’re trying to fill a container without overflowing it, quarter-turn is just easier.Notice that the pipe part gets significantly thicker near the threaded end. This meant I had to enlarge the hole, because the old hole was now insufficient for the new part. That was pretty annoying since I’m just a homeowner and don’t have a great way of boring holes but I managed to chisel it a little bigger. It’s also a little annoying that the spacing between the screw holes is smaller than my old one was. That’s another thing that you’d know before ordering if they posted a data sheet. (And it differs from the older Mueller ones, so you might think you’re purchasing an exact replacement but it’s not.) This was just going into wood and drywall inside my garage but would’ve been more frustrating through a brick exterior wall.It comes with a white plastic thingy that’s supposed to help you make sure you mount it with the proper pitch (down so it drains). A plumber once told me that he didn’t like to use those and instead put a small wood shim under the pipe where it goes through the hole. So I did it that way. If you do use the plastic thingy, don’t put it upside down or it’ll pitch up and have exactly the wrong effect.Be careful not to overtighten (especially if the connector on your plumbing is just plastic without a metal insert) or you might crack the connector and have to get a plumber come fix it. I’ve made that mistake before. Put a couple wraps of Teflon tape on the threads before you screw them in. There should be a rubber gasket in whatever you’re screwing this into (not supplied with this product). Don’t lose it or it won’t seal right. That was how I ended up overtightening and cracking last time.No leaks yet but I would certainly intend to update this review if that changes. And I’ve been using the ten inch version elsewhere for a few years now without any issue.Be sure to disconnect the hose during winter. It’s only properly freeze proof if it’s able to drain.

Good quality Great and cold weather and push the shut off valve on the inside this way water never freezes on the outside of the house and the valve station in tact it’s a good value for the price

The high-quality wall hydrant it worked perfectly. Be careful when ordering one that it’s Long enough. If you’re going through cement foundation, you’ll need an eight or possibly a 10 inch long one

This frost-proof will cock is well built. Easy to install and with its heavy duty build should last a long time.

Who would have thought... why have I been messing with 5 turn valves all my life!?!? I love the quarter turn... I have the fine control on my hose sprayer attachments... I don't need it at the wall. And, I can still control the flow, even with this quarter turn valve.

When I recently installed these sillcocks I noticed that one of them was missing the anti-siphon frost free vacuum breaker. It's a half-dollar size silver-colored threaded cap. I may be forced to purchase this part if I do not receive a positive response to this review. Review will go to a five if I receive the part at no cost.
