Why does this only work for 2 cylinders?

It works in three modes for the spark 1P1R (1 pulse of electric power thru the plug wire for every 1 revolution of the crank) ie… a two stroke motor, fires on every crank revolution… 1P2R (1 pulse of electric power thru the plug wire for every 2 rotations of the crankshaft) ie… a four stroke engine… and… 2P1R (2 pulses of electric power thru the plug wire for every 1 rotation of the crankshaft) ie… multi -spark ignition (usually CDI ignitions that require a battery to operate) 2 stroke… lastly, the hour meter doesn’t care how many rpm or strokes or pulses, it is just a cumulative timer of how long the tach has been receiving a spark signals off of the plug wire… number of cylinders doesn’t matter because all internal combustion engines will fire all cylinders in either 1 (2 strokes) or 2 (4 stroke) rotations of the crank shaft no matter what the layout is (radial, inline, V, horizontal opposing)…

Hour/ tach meter recommendations for a 3 cylinder motor?

You need the HR-8062-2 model, up to 8 cylinder engines..

How is this one-wire tach different from others that have black, red & black wires? I want to use one to tune a mower, tiller & chainsaw.

Just wrap the wire around the spark plug wire and that’s it, this tach comes with instructions how to calibrate it for one or two cylinders.

I purchased this. says for 4 stroke engines.has to be attached near coil. i cant to that. will it still work on my champion 3500 generator?
