Q: I just got this and was unhappy to find that the solid lines were metric indicators. Is this a problem for anyone out there used to inches?

I thought that it was a problem until I realized that the dotted lines are in inches. And they aren't in the usual 1/4 inch intervals... they are actually 1/8" measurements and that is better than any other cutter that I have had. I have vision problems and I can read the dots easily. Give the dots a chance and I think you'll like it.

Q: How well does this cut card stock?

This is a beautiful paper cutter. I use it in my classroom on paper, card stock, and laminated items. I have owned it for 3 years and still cuts smooth. As with any paper cutter, you are limited on the number of pieces it will handle at once. I prefer using over the one in the teachers work room that has gotten dull.

Q: Does it cut straight, not just eyeball straight but perfectly straight. Im making my own sketch books and I need it to cut straight. Thanks.

My daughter was a studio art major in college. Her senior project was making her own books. She loved this and thought it was great!!!

Q: How do you sharpen the blade

It's a self sharpening blade. Each time you use the blade, keep it against the metal edge of the bed. That hones the blade. The trickiest part is keeping the nearest end of the blade against the metal strip. I use 15 sheets of computer paper as a reference and the blade will cut through most things. It is made for paper and the sharpness of mine is great after 4 years of papercutting.
