I've tried (others) and this is by far the best in this price range.TIP-(check the range of Different content make up in the Lifa range!) this one is Largely Merino wool AND some synthetic.Note this is the best mixture of Merino Wool and synthetic combined. The merino wool content is not only HIGH but correctly woven spun for the BEST performance, the smaller synthetic content also makes it comfortable and durable.I've tried a LOTs of 'base layers' and non of the synthetic ones have come close to the happy temperature this top maintains (not too hot not too cool) Exactly what Merino wool does.Heats up quick and wicks away (any) moisture.Fit was fine for me; snug (it is a BASE layer) and allows free movement.Very well made.WOULD Highly recommend this Helly Hanson top.

I liked the long johns, so I bought the top. I use it as a base layer for diving with my drysuit. It is warmer than 2 layers of my other thermals. I did 2 45 minute dives in 5 C water reasonably comfortably. It does seem to be more buoyant though.

Been wearing these for over 30 years now. Hiking biking and hillwalking. Marshalling on motorsport events on a freezing Saturday. Rebuilding Landrovers in a freezing garage in mid winter. Good kit. Nuff said.Now I wrote the above after buying this kit in October 2024. I wore it through two winters and this week treated myself to a new identical item. The original seller didn't have it in size and colour, I eventually tracked a seller in France who sold me what I wanted for £79.86, not bad but not the £57 I paid 2 years ago. My gripe is the wear and tear over less than 2 years, have a look at the attached photos. The 2024 shirt ( on the left) has shrunk, the colour has faded considerably, and there is significant wear to hem and cuffs. It was washed as per instructions and always air dried outside. The third photo is of two similar shirts, worn extensively over 20 years. As you can see the colour has stayed remarkably fast, the shirts are wearable but a bit threadbare, not surprising as they have given sterling service. Both treated to the same wash and dry regime as the 2024 item. The quality just does not appear to be as good as it once was.

Good fit sizes acurate. Quality base layer.

I bought this base layer for sailing and tried it out last night on a bicycle ride. I rode for 35 minutes in 4 degrees Celsius into a 15 knot wind wearing the base layer, a cotton shirt and a thin cotton pullover with a thin Musto permacell jacket. I usually feel the cold but not a bit last night. It also stayed dry with sweating. This base layer really works. Highly recommended!
