Lithuanian-English/English-Lithuanian Practical Dictionary

This Lithuanian dictionary is a must for anybody learning Lithuanian, and while perhaps not the most comprehensive in vocabulary, it is by far the best. If you only purchase one dictionary, definitely make it this one! We have multiple Lithuanian-English (and vice versa) dictionaries, many purchased from Lithuania, including dictionaries by Bronius Svecevičius and Bronius/Bronislovas Piersarskas - and explored many more. The problem with these dictionaries is that when you are trying to look up a verb in Lithuanian (based on the English word), every single other dictionary only gives you the infinitive - even though you need to know the infinitive, the third person present tense, and the third person past simple tense in order to properly (and quickly) apply use of any verb in a Lithuanian language sentence. Without this info, you are forced to look up the word in an English-Lithuanian dictionary, then find the word in a separate Lithuanian-English dictionary in order to determine how to use it. FINALLY a dictionary which allows just one easy step!!!! And it is a manageable size to boot. Being a native English speaker trying to learn Lithuanian, I don't know if this info is as helpful in reverse, but it is worth noting the same helpful items are offered when looking up a Lithuanian verb. In addition, there is a nice description in the beginning about basics of the Lithuanian language including easy (and essential) tables for declining nouns and adjectives. If you are learning Lithuanian, buy it - you won't regret it!

A wonderful reference that I use on a regular basis. In the beginning, the lessons are built right into the dictionary along with an amazing summary of Lithuanian history. I recommend this dictionary for those interested in learning more all the way to those who are well-versed in Lithuanian and need a quick and easy reference. It can also be used by teachers and students alike.

I find the dictionary to be very good for vocabulary and idioms, but I was somewhat disappointed to find that sample sentences of how to use the words were not given

seem to be a better version and most likely will meet my needs,wish that it would be a bit larger too much of a pocket version!

This is the only Lithuanian dictionary I know of that gives all the principal parts of the verbs - absolutely necessary to conjugate them. If you are learning Lithuanian, this dictionary is essential.Unfortunately, only the nominative form of the nouns is given, whereas the genitive is needed to know exactly which declension it belongs to, and neither are any accents given, which means one cannot know how to stress the words (Lithuanian has unpredictable stress). I doubt learners of Lithuanian will be able to find anything better, however, so I strongly recommend this dictionary.Also of note is the small grammar reference section at the front.

Very useful for the traveller. Students of the language will need something more concice.
