Review: Superb Presentation and Accurate Sound - Sennheiser HD 6XX was a purchase based on another review I read comparing the 6XX to HD 600 and the HD 650. I am very pleased with this headphone as it replaced a HD 560 Ouvation headphones of 35 years. The sound has a bit more revealing sonics and greater soundstage/ cleaner delivery that just feels more accurate and has better neutrality. I was surprised at its better presentation. On a less noticeable detail, the bass is not as present and could be from just having open ear construction, although bass eq boost has a pleasing effect that isn't noticeably distorting within reasonable levels. Actually it has stronger damping - no boominess. The range between the low -mids and up through the higher mids into the presence range is rather flat without anything noticeably standing out (which is a good thing). The treble range is also smooth and does not give the listener any fatigue. As far as the heavy-handed force on the head it does loosen over time and it can also be lowered by taking the earcups out of the headband, making the fit looser. The price is very reasonable for what this compares to in Sennheiser's other offerings. Overall this headphone is very good for fine audio affecionado listening. I've read these phones are made to pair with tube amplifiers but I found them awesome on chi-fi usb dac devices on smartphones. No regrets at this pricepoint.
Review: Incredible Sound - These are my new favorite open back headphones for sim racing. I have the AKG K7XX as well, which also sound great but don't feel as secure on my head. The HD6XX are a snugger fit. I can see them being uncomfortable for people with a larger head, but they're great for me. I do wish they had a suspension band like the K7XX, as the band on the HD6XX can press into your head a bit after a while. I had to replace the cord due to 1 channel that was intermittent out of the box, but I needed a longer cord anyway so it wasn't worth returning. Others have written at length about the sound profile, so I won't beat that horse any further, but I love separation, clarity, and when my headphones expose parts that I haven't heard before; these cans deliver that in spades. Overall, I find these to be a great value and would purchase again.

## Features

- Modern Midnight Blue Designed for the modern listener, the HD 6XX swaps the HD 650s gray colorway with a darker, more dramatic, deep midnight blue.
- 6-Foot Cable Based on feedback from the audiophile community, we updated the HD 6XX with a detachable 6-foot cable (compared to the originals cumbersome 10-foot cable).
- Standard 3.5mm plug Our community asked for better compatibility with laptops, phones, DAPs, and moreso we opted for an -inch plug instead of the standard -inch plug.
- International products have separate terms, are sold from abroad and may differ from local products, including fit, age ratings, and language of product, labeling or instructions.

## Questions & Answers

**Q: What’s the difference between these and the one sold on Drop for $280? Do they just get to sell it at a special price?**
A: There is no difference. It came only in one color. It is just price gouging. Buy it from Drop, the original Massdrop-Sennheiser online store, it is $239 on sale.

**Q: Aren’t these cheaper through mass drop? Like $160 so why are they more here?**
A: I’m not familiar with mass drop however I know you can find them cheaper elsewhere. The demand on Amazon calls for a $260-290 price roughly.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Great headphones, not recommended with glasses.
*by C***S on January 14, 2026*

These are incredible headphones. The overall sound profile is very accurate and easy to listen to, but some may complain that the Bass is lacking. They also have a smaller/more intimate sound stage, which some may not like, but they are very directionally accurate with solid separation. I think that they are fairly comfortable without my glasses, but WOULD NOT RECOMMEND with glasses, at least not with the stock pads. My wife doesn't wear glasses, and we are keeping this pair for her. I've heard that after market pads will fix the comfort with glasses, and I have no complaints for the sound. If you want something that sounds very similar with a more comfortable design, I really like the Sennheiser HD 490. They are a bit warmer (less flat/accurate for reproduction) with a wider sound stage and slightly better separation.
