Very cool product (pun intended)
My husband has always slept hot. Most summers he wants to turn the air onditioner to "make snow" when we go to bed. So this year I bought him this cooling pad. It sleeps comfortably, you cannot feel the circulating tubes. The circulating unit is pretty quiet. If you like white noise, that's another benefit of the product.Best of all, it keeps my husband cool during sleep. We can leave the thermostat at a reasonable setting. At this rate we will recover the cost of the pad at some point. The only reason I didn't give this product 5 stars is that the sticker price is a little high. But not having a grumpy husband, priceless.

Cools 20 degrees below ambient.
Purchased the Full single unit size last month and have been putting it through its paces, being a shift worker.First, my unit from Brookstone didn't come with a manual but you can find one in PDF form at: [...]Second, there appears to be an 18 - 20 degree limit on the pad based on the room temperature, the base unit is in.Makes sense, since an air conditioner or heat pump will have a temperature differential of about 15 to 20 across its evaporator coil...you can only move so many btu's.With my bedroom at 80 degrees the coldest the pad will get is 60, once I'm in bed the temp will warm up to 66 and stay there. So still very nice compared to a hot bed but you should know the limitations.I've tried it with a sheet only and with a comforter...get the same results so insulating the chilipad from the room doesn't seem to be as big of a deal as the actual ambient temperature of the room, the cooling unit is in.The pad should be able to get to 46 degrees, but only with the room temp at 66...in theory.I imagine the same 20 degree limitation will apply to heating, however, your body temp will aid in the heating process while body temp will hinder the cooling process.I give it 5 stars based off of what it can do, now that I have lowered my expectations, it does make the sleeping environment better. The Full size is the largest pad you can get with a single unit, maybe the smaller twin or single size with the same cooling unit will perform differently than mine also maybe the queen/king size with their duel units will perform differently as well.***********UPDATE 8-9-14My unit is not working. It thinks there is no water in it, so the low water light comes on.Over the last few months I've been having to refill my unit about every month. Not sure where the water was going, the matteress didn't seem wet, so maybe evaporation?I tried to stay on the water level but the unit has turned itself off a few times when I wasn't as vigilant.I'm not going to ding my inital star rating because I'm not sure if me letting it run out of water on multiple occasions somehow damaged the level sensor. There is the new upgraded ChiliPad Cube 1.1 />ChiliPad Cube Cooling and Warming Mattress Pad - TWIN - Perfect Sleep Temperature , that looks to be a totally redesigned unit.I have it ordered through the company, would have ordered it through Amazon but I wanted the extension tubes this time and Amazon doesn't have those. Free shipping also from the company so I just ordered everthing from them.I decided to go with a TWIN instead of a FULL. The FULL cooled me, myself and I (all three of us) and the rest of the bed. Thinking that a smaller "heatsink" area would let the unit move the heat to or from me better on those extra hot, extra cold days.SINGLE (Half Queen) = 30" x 75"TWIN = 38" X 75" ($50 more for those 8 inches but I think worth it)FULL = 53" x 75"

Expectations Too High
I am not trying to bash this product, im sure it does what its suppose to do under better Conditons, I was expecting too much from the product. The Temperature in my City Outside was 107 Degrees, inside my House and Bedroom was 96 Degrees, I turned on my Portable Air Conditioner to Cool Down the Room after an hour, it cooled the room down about 10 degrees, but the Poor Chilipad never got off of 87 degrees after running an hour. Therefore the product serves no purpose for me

Beware only 30 days to return!
You on have only 30-days to return this item through Amazon, not the 90-days advertised. The reason I bought this was to be able to shut my windows at night due to outside noise. The pad does work, however the little pump puts off heat. My bedroom is really small (aprox. 9'x9') so having a little heater going all night makes the room warm and stuffy. So any cooling from the pad is offsets from the added heat. If your bedroom is bigger you probably won't notice it.The noise it makes didn't bother me and the light was easy to cover up.

my personal chill pill - until it wasn't
I purchased at the beginning of this very warm NE summer and I am delighted with the chilipad.I hate sleeping on a hot mattress and have hot flashes occasionally, and I wanted the coolness of a waterbed (fond memory from my hippie youth!) but without the waves, water weight, and hassle. The chilipad is cooling and super comfortable to sleep on, and once you figure out your ideal personal temperature setting, it provides a great night's sleep with a reduced need for air conditioning. My ideal temp setting turned out to be quite low - 58F - but after fiddling around with it, I found it works great. I'm able to sleep very comfortably with a regular comforter and sheets; you can't feel the pad beneath you, just the coolness. Since my body temperature drops during sleep, I had to eventually turn it up a little or I would actually wake up too cold. Our long-haired cat loves to sleep on the chilipad too - I think it gives him some relief on hot summer days. The price point was high for me, but the company appears to have good customer service and setup was simple. Do purchase some distilled water for filling it, along with a bottle of hydrogen peroxide for monthly cleaning.I look forward to finding out whether it's also effective as a warming pad in the wintertime.UPDATE: July 2018. Have had the chili-works for two years. The problem is that the chili cube has begun to rattle very noisily (enough to interfere with sleep). I contacted company; their repair page didn't work (wouldn't accept my date of purchase or let me upload a pdf of my purchase receipt). Their "ask the Chili Guru" link leads to a 404 page (nothing there). I finally wound up trying to contact them via a regular contact dialogue, only to receive a confirmation that "We are currently experiencing higher than normal support request volume from our customers and are currently backlogged. We are working hard to get caught up, but right now, you can expect a response to your message within 5-7 days." Pretty crappy customer service. Will update if I ever hear back from them. Meanwhile, it is impossible to get the chili cube replaced or repaired elsewhere, so I am left with a sort-of-working unit. Stars demoted.
