Houseboat Girl

Life On The Mighty River
I grew up reading Lois Lenski's books and can't believe I hadn't read this until recently. Lenski has a sensitive but not sentimental insight into a child's point of view. She's one of my favorite children's authors, She showed kids like me how other children lived in different regions and times. "I am a part of all I have met".

Houseboat Girl
Delightful story! This was one of my favorite Lois Lenski books as a child. I just read my grandson's copy, and I understand why I liked it so much. Living on a houseboat sounds like so much fun. The author's descriptions are so vivid that one feels like he is there. The pictures are wonderful, too. This book teaches some American history about people that could easily be overlooked, and it piques a child's imagination. I think every child should read all of Lois Lenski's books!

nice story
I read the books by Lois Lenski way back in the 60's when I was a child. The other day while searching books for my kindlefire I typed in the authors name and was so surprised to find this story and others for the kindle! Brought back alot of memories, when I use to walk up to the library in the summer and come home and read these books.

Not my favorite
I adore Lois Lenski's work and when I found this, I had to read it. It's not one of my favorites, but it is a good read.

Easy and entertaining reading
This was a sweet book. I didn't realize that people lived on houseboats at that time, but it made sense considering what was going on in the history of our country. Lois Lenski's book promote good moral values, but she doesn't hesitate to show the darker side of people - because - her books ARE based on history. She researched each of her books so she could present an accurate portrayal of life during that period of time. It was easy to visualize the houseboat, people, and life on the river.
