Carlson 28" Extra Tall Super Wide Dog Gate, 40"-70” Adjustable Freestanding Wooden Pet Gate for Doorways & Hallways

I bought this gate because I needed to contain my three chihuahua pups on a deck so they did not have access to the steps leading to the yard. This gate was expandable enough to cover the area I needed whereas most of the cheaper and less durable gates simply were not long enough. When I took this gate out of the box I was immediately impressed by how well made it was. It was incredibly simple to assemble and the stiff wire mesh and solid wood construction were the perfect thing for an outdoor gate to contain my small dogs. The best parts of the design are the legs and the locking mechanism on the gate itself. Once the size is set the locks are very strong and the gate is not going to budge. I've had other cheaper gates that never hold the locked position and are wobbly. Not this one. The legs are super sturdy and once the locked position is set this gate is not going to move. I highly recommend this gate to anyone looking for a high quality dog gate that poses little risk of allowing your dog to escape. Of course, this is for smaller dogs and for dogs that aren't high jumpers. My dogs can even lean or push on the gate itself without it moving. Five stars on the design and quality.

These are excellent gates. We ended up investing in a few of these to keep the dogs who misbehave in our house near us, but not where we couldn't see them. We had to basically halve the living room with them, due to furniture obscuring our total view, but it doesn't even look bad, surprisingly (at least we like it!). We didn't get all the gates at once, either. We got them over a little bit of time, as they proved so useful. They are good looking and well made. You can easily walk over the gates if you can pick your feet up well or just move them aside, of course. There is a tall dog who can jump over the gates, but that's okay, because she's good. :) Note: If you fall over one they are easy to put back together, as well; apparently they don't tend to break easily. :) Okay, I was running -- *blush* UPDATE: These are still used and still useful and only the one I did fall over and put back together has instability issues if I move it. I'm sure a little glue in the right places could remedy that, as nothing is actually broken--just unglued! This particular one is usually not moved since it has been punished and moved to a less used location for tripping me! I think maybe I resent it a little for tripping me, so I don't see it often enough. I love these because they are standalone, so you can move them anywhere and adjust them and that offers so much convenience! The feet do just out a bit, though. I have tripped over those, too. :( I blame mysef and not thinking about that in spots I have chosen, though.

The wood finish is a great touch, fits reasonably well with our floors. It seems quite sturdy, relative to other similar products. The tabs that hold it in place in the door frame are a very clever idea--they keep dogs from just pushing it out of the way, while making it incredibly easy for a creature with opposable thumbs to move it out of the way. I also appreciate the shorter option. Our dogs aren't going to try and go over it, but it makes it easy for bipedal organisms to do so. I definitely recommend this gate. The only problem I had was during assembly, I separated the two gate pieces entirely, thinking I would slide them back together after installing the feet on both pieces. This isn't really possible because of the sturdiness of the brackets that hold the gate pieces together. So, what you should do is unsnap all 4 brackets and slide the gate pieces apart just enough to fit the feet in place, then snap the brackets back in place. Then you can install the feet and not have to worry about sliding the gate pieces back together. This was more of a me problem than a problem with the product, though.

Originally bought this gate for my puppy, but it has definitely grown with our family! I love how adjustable it is—you can fit it into pretty much any space, and it’s super easy to move around. I’ve even used it outside on our deck with no issues. The long legs do tend to get in the way at times. One thing to note: as my dog got bigger, he eventually learned how to knock it over. And now that we have little kids, they’ve figured out how to move it and walk around it too. But overall, we still really love this gate. It’s been such a helpful tool in our home and has gotten a ton of use!

Oh my goodness - I love it!!! I needed a gate to make up for the missing entry/exit gate to my backyard due to having multiple dogs. It was difficult for me to coordinate letting each one out and back in for letting them go potty. This gate is beautiful! I love it! It is very sturdy and a nice composition of beautiful wood along with metal rails that has the heaviness and length to keep even a large Labrador retriever contained, safe, and happy. I am so pleased that I bought this gate for its temporary use outside for a few months. It is absolutely stunning, and will match into any decor inside, as well. I know this was its initial purpose, but it filled in for outdoors, as well. I will be back to purchase more as the needs arise and to let others know of this purchase and what a wonderful product it is. Thank you for being here on Amazon and selling this product. The instructions were perfect, and I could easily put this gate together with the stands and get it into place very quickly.

It arrived on time as per Amazon fulfillment. I suspect however that it I may have been the second recipient of this item because some of the parts were lose in the box. The other parts were secured in Styrofoam so there is no way they could have fallen out and the bottom of one of the gates looked scratched at. I will say thou that I am pleasantly pleased with the overall quality, sturdiness and function of this pet gate. I chose this particular item because of the wire grate it is made with. I have a 100 lb Lab and a puppy cokapoo. The Lab isn't the concern...it is that the puppy tears apart the plastic grate on the baby gates we use to shut off spaces in the house. Also I cant take him every where and I don't like leaving him unattended as yet. He picks up every piece of yard so he still needs to be watched more so. I have a 74 in opening from the Kitchen to the living room and a door at the other end of the kitchen. We needed to secure him in the kitchen as it was the safest place with no wires and other things to get into. The difference of the 4 in gap is 2 inches on either side and the space is a non issue for him to escape. How ever I got a little creative and I had some trim pieces left over from a remodel a while back and attached it to either side of the gate to reduce the gap down to a 1/2 in on either side. I ll try and take a pic and download at a later time. The gates design is genius!! It comes with 2 ways of using it. Either the legs you attached as shown in the picture...... or these long type screws with a pressure cap. Other gates are a pain in the but compared to this gate!! there is no hardware u have to screw into a wall.... thus not having unsightly hardware permanently attached to you walls!! The screw slide into the predrilled holes at the top and bottom.....then you make sure you have the gates clips secured.....and you extend the screw to the wall and tighten the cap towards the gate......pressure locked.....like I said GENUIS!!!!!! This is the way I used this and I want to share this because it you have a little or big smarty like my 2 the gate is great but unless you have some sort of junction to butt this into to keep it in place all it takes is for a shove and they are loose. Also I don't want it in the doorway allll the time just when I have to go out. I attached the legs to the bottom and used the screws on the top. This way I can still pressure it into place at the top to insure it stays in place and still keep it portable.

I read some reviews saying it was weirdly difficult to put together and I didn't understand why till I put mine together and realized I had to take it all apart and put it back together. DO NOT slide the two pieces apart before putting the feet on, because then, you can't slide them back together. Besides that, it's pretty good. It will have a large gap on walls with baseboards. It also only locks in between or on the bars so it may be too loose or too tight to fit odd spaces. Little bit too expensive for such flaws, but it works for what I needed so I kept mine in the end.

Easy to assemble and alter width when you need to. I don't even use the clips as I change its position quite often, and it stays at the required width.Good and strong and stable, at least for my dachshund. Much larger dog would be able to knock it over. Need to plan where it will go- good, as legs fit by kitchen unit kick-board, and the frame can fit tight against a unit door. If against a flat wall, e.g. Within a doorway, a very small puppy could get out of the side.

I wanted a temporary gate to block off access for my puppy. Very happy with this. Not very high but I wanted to be able to walk over it easily. I read some reviews that it falls down but mine are great. Even without the braces installed they stand up. If you run into them they will knock down without the braces or brackets or whatever you call the feet things. But the whole put of training is to teach the puppy to stay away from the gate not to test if he can knock it over so it's great. Won't use it when we aren't home. Love the colour, like the composition, decent price. Bought two and honestly if I could afford it I would have bought three. Very pleased.
