Will this fit a 12 inch deep European mattress ?

The encasement that I purchased was for a maximum 8 inch deep mattress and is a tight fit so the answer is no.

Does the zip totally seal all the way round or are there any small gaps left?

It seals all the way round and then at the end of the zip (the last few inches) it has an extra velcro cover piece attached. It's very, very good and I highly recommend it. Excellent quality. Easy to fit. Does the job.

Is this 100% waterproof ?

Mine has been through several incontinece accidents and a few spillages and has not let anything through. I cannot say how it would fare under a deluge though. I would be happy to purchase another. Hope that helps.

My mattress has 9 inch depth, I understand I could stretch the 8 inch, but would it be better to use the larger 12 inch, less likely to rip?

These are good but i really think the 12" will be too 'baggy'. (Shame they don't do a 10")
