Rexel X8 Cross Cut Paper Shredder, P4 Security, 8 Sheet, 14L Bin

I upgrade from a Rexel ribbon shredder, that I have had for over 20 years and is still working great, to this cross cut shredder for improved security. The shredded work great. However, after having it for a week, and it have been plugged into the mains from the start, I have just notice that there was a slight electrical smell coming from it and that the main switch was slightly warmer to the touch as the rest of the body. I use a thermal camera and saw that the body had a temperature of 19C and the switch 23C. I checked the power use and saw that the shredder is using 1 Watt (5vA) of power when switched off. I do not know if this a feature of this shredder, but in case it is, I would advise that you remove the mains plug when not in use. But all in all this is a great shredder and I hope that it will last as long as my old one. Follow up:- After 5 months of occasional use the shredder has completely stopped working. Spoke with the manufacturer and they told me to contact Amazon for a replacement, or repair. Unable to get hold of anyone at Amazon. They appear to be not interest in giving any customer support on an item that is still under warranty . Very disappointed, especially with being a longstanding customer of Amazon. Follow up: After navigating the Amazon customer service AI, I finally was given the option for a call back about the problem I am having. Spoke with two ladies who were very helpful and was offered to have the shredder replace with a new one and they would arrange for the old one to be collected. The collection and delivery happened within within 24 hours. Very happy about the outcome. Lets hope the new shredder preforms better than the previous. Also, a big thank you to Rexel customer support for assisting with this.

We bought the Rexel X8 to shred our mountain of paperwork that we had collected over the years, we've been using the shredder for a while now, it's not bad and does a good job of getting rid of confidential paper waste to secure standards. I wouldn't put in more that the recommmended number of pieces of paper, if you do this, it can become to much for the cogs inside and you will damage the shredder in no time if you keep over-loading it. Having fixed a number of types of shredders at work over the years, people putting to many sheets in at once, is on top of the list for damaging a shredder. If your using it continously, it tends to over-heat and you will need to let it cool down, this is a shame as this puts it in the home use catogory, rather than a busy office in my humble opinion. But it does do a great job of if you looking at occasional use through out the day, you will not be able to put a document back together after it's been cross-cut to secure standards Yashima

Really quiet, great value for money.

I have been using this shredder for a few months now and find it is really good. Although I haven't tried to shred any more than 4 sheets at a time. It is an ideal size for my spare room. Difficult to see if it is full through the window because it is dark perspex but I just lift off the lid and check, so not a problem.

Does what is should. Easy to use and at least it's not as noisy as some cheaper units

It's a great little shredder and has been able to shred everything I've given it, however it does struggle to shred 6 pages at once, despite saying it can manage this. I've also had to stop it a few times and unplug it to pick out bits of shredded paper from the bin side that haven't fallen out of the shredding parts as this was slowing it down and I didn't want to break it. I'm still glad I bought it though, just be mindful to turn it off at the plug if you're going to unpick paper by hand as the power button is a slide control and is very easily knocked into the 'on' position

I wanted to give this shredder a good review. I really did. It was quiet, it munched through the papers steadily and, because I've killed shredders before, I was extra careful. I did one page at a time, gave it time to finish each sheet properly before I started the next. I was careful not to overheat it, yet it stopped working for no reason I could find after a month. Actually, slightly over a month which made the return to Amazon a bit complicated. Now I'm on the hunt yet again for a decent shredder. The one I bought from Staples years ago, and which lasted years, simply isn't made any more.

It shreds and isn't too noisy. I can hear it straining with even 4 normal sheets of paper though, be aware their 8-9 sheets is based on 70gram paper when most normal paper is 160gram so about 4 sheets of paper is all it's able to do at a time. Good for small occasional jobs but not for any heavy shredding.
