My Onan generator is located in the lower section of the motor home. And the orientation of the air filter system makes for a rather difficult change-out. The Onan filter is of the proper design so that it can be set in place with minimal added effort. Other general-purpose filters would not fit as well.

Cheaper filters might work, but the knock off filter this replaced was completely oil soaked. Makes me think it did not flow air well enough. Happy maintenance.
