Frances Lincoln Ltd Artists: My First Artists

Saw this book in the Picasso museum in Paris. Bought one there. It us inspiring I bought one here!! One for an adult. One for young child. Such a great book

Grandkids love it

This is a nice book, with bright colours and a cute narrative which makes for a good introduction to art for little ones. I’d have preferred the whole book to be dedicated to artists in the traditional sense- there’s a couple of pages teaching about fashion designers and also David Bowie (although I am a big fan!)

Delightful book with great art, verbiage, and excellent questions to engage higher level thinking.

When my wife and I saw this book available for review from VINE, we were happy to do so. We're both lifelong readers and now we're grandparents who enjoy board books with our very youngest grandchild. This is part of the legacy of Frances Lincoln Children's Books, now owned by Quarto. My wife and I have collected many children's books since the 1970s, so we were immediately drawn to the name of Lincoln's world-famous imprint for children. She died way too young 20 years ago but her vision continues and you can read about the writer-artist team that produced these My First Artists books in the Amazon book page. We know and love and respect the work by this creative team stretching all the way back to the vision of Frances herself. In this book, Maria Isabel Sánchez Vegara and Lisbeth Kaiser have brought together eight of the artists that this book series also explores in individual volumes. So, this makes it a great introductory choice from this series of books. While some artists have been well known for many years, like Picasso and Kahlo and Warhol, this team also pushes the contemporary edge of art education by adding figures such as the late Jean-Michel Basquiat. What they achieve in this book is very very simple: Vividly engaging color portraits of these artists "at work" (I use the phrase loosely since Warhol is "at work" eating a can of Campbell's soup) coupled with very brief lines that mainly introduce their names to very young children. We think think is a brilliantly conceived series of books. Very happy to give this 5 stars.
