Giggled his ears off reading this book
Our kid loved this book from the first page. We are fans of this series but this one stands out. There is real comedic elements and nuance. Strongly recommend.

Seriously awesome book
Okay so I am an adult who read this book to my kid, but this is probably the best kids chapter book I’ve ever read. Love it. The story just gets to you! Mercy Watson books are all great, and the Tales from Deckawoo Drive are even better- they all have awesome lessons for kids that hit you in a series of sort of “aha moments” in the books that really hit home. I couldn’t love these books more, and this one is my favorite. (Oh yeah and my kid likes it too... 😂)

Something different.
I purchased this for my five year old who has loved all of Kate DiCamillo's books. He enjoyed it, though I don't think it is his favorite of her books. However, as a parent it is definitely my favorite to discuss with my child. The main character, who is very self assured and competent in previous appearances, has a traumatic experience early in the book and struggles to regain her self confidence. The idea that adults can encounter this kind of setback and/or experience an extended bout of self doubt is one that I had not yet seen treated so well in a book targeted for this age group. I think it is very useful to have an accessible book that introduces the concept to younger readers, especially ones who might have observed an adult struggling in real life. The ultimate message is encouraging and uplifting.
