Marvel Classic Black Light Collectible Poster Portfolio

Buy these now! They only seem to release them every 50 years!
50 years ago Third Eye Inc released an amazing series of black light posters based on Marvel comics artwork. As a young comics fan, I bought around 8 of them from a shop in the now defunct South Sound Mall in Olympia, Washington in around 1975 or 1976. I loved those posters. Sadly, I moved quite frequently in those days, which led to a lot of wear and tear on the posters. Ultimately I had to let them go. Years later I discovered the posters now sell on eBay for hundreds of dollars each. I couldn’t justify buying them again. But then, this set of replicas of 12 of those posters was announced (including six of the posters I once owned). I ordered them in April of 2021, and waited impatiently for their release in November. It was worth the wait. This is a beautiful product. These aren’t intended to be exact replicas of the original posters, though at a glance they looked virtually identical. They’re slightly smaller, and printed on better paper (card stock) for increased durability. The copyright information has been moved to the back of the poster (an improvement), where they’ve also added information on the original artists. And they’re printed with a different process, resulting in a slight shine that the original posters didn’t have. However, it’s just not true what an earlier reviewer claimed about the inks not being fluorescent. I have a black light, and they definitely glow (you can see me holding one in the photo). I wouldn’t be shocked if the new posters don’t glow quite as much as the original silk screened posters (as I said, I no longer have an original to compare it to). The posters definitely glow though. The print quality is very good. And seeing them it felt like I had reclaimed a treasure I lost long ago.Oh, and the posters come in a super tough box, with a flyer showing the original comics pages that were used to make the posters. The amazing thing is, these probably cost me less than I paid for the original posters in the 70s, adjusting for inflation. They’re not exact replicas of the 70s posters, and don’t claim to be (though from my wall the only real noticeable difference is the missing copyright information on the front). They’re beautiful pieces of art though, and I can’t recommend these enough!

GRAB'EM WHILE YOU CAN!
Well, it FINALLY has been released. First promoted in book form 2 years ago, scrapped then re solicited in poster form one year ago, it’s at last available and it was well worth waiting for. The CLASSIC MARVEL BLACKLIGHT POSTERS portfolio reproduce 12 of the 24 original Third Eye posters from 1971. If you’re a fan of vintage Marvel comics OR retro pop art, grab it. Aside from a slightly smaller scale (see size comparison pic 6) The colors are very faithful to the originals. They are printed on heavy bristol stock, so they have a nice weight and lay perfectly flat. Believe me, if you’ve ever tried to unroll one of the originals, it can be a hair raising experience trying not to kink the damned thing! The reprints look absolutely STUNNING in daylight! And yes, they ARE indeed blacklight posters. BUT; there are some striking differences between these and the originals, once the the ol’ blacklight is turned on. Most likely due to the fact that the new ones are offset printed as opposed to silkscreened (as the originals appear to be). With offset, the ink tends to be absorbed into the paper. Silkscreening ink sits on the surface of the paper, retaining it’s full opacity. The result presents some quirky differences. Take a look at the comparison pics below. The originals are fully saturated and brilliant. The new versions are beautiful, but a little more subtle. Then again, the new versions average about $10 each and the originals can cost you $300-$900 per. So, like I said grab’em while you can and let's hope there’s a volume 2, with the rest of the run!

Very poor quality print and NOT printed with fluorescent inks!
The description says these are printed in fluorescent inks but they are NOT. See my picture with this product (front) help up against an original poster (back) under blacklight. As you can can see the inks do not shine. Also the print quality is very poor - like they tried to blow up a small image.

Marvel Blacklight Posters
These are 20 x 30 on heavy stock paper. I have 3 Black lights in my back room and these posters stand out really nice. Shipped flat in hardcover book form. I hope they follow up and do the other 12 also. I had the original few from 50 years ago and these are so much better. Heavy stock paper for one thing and very worth the money. If sold separately, they would be $10.00 each compared to the Original ones selling for $100's on ebay. These are better than those, unless you have to have those from 50 years ago and falling apart. I have seen some on ebay ask so much and in bad shape. These are great, Light up a room.

Incredible, right down the line!
This arrived about 2 weeks ago, and I'm still blown away. I've been tracking these original prints in auction for about 3 years now, and have never seen one for less than $200...each. These are reprints from 1971, and usually blacklight posters were printed on fairly thin paper. These 12, yes, 12 posters are printed on sturdy paper, almost like poster board. The box itself is AMAZING, and a work of art in itself. The box (as pictured) is very thick, arrived sealed in plastic, placed in another cardboard box that appears to have been especially made to fit to avoid rattling around, then placed in yet ANOTHER box for shipping. I've had mixed experiences with Amazon's shipping/packaging choices, but this was very impressive! At $100+, this is beyond worth it, and won't be around long. I'm so glad I pre-ordered, and feel bad for those trying to sell the originals from the 70's because these are probably far superior in quality...definately a great deal! I'll probably regret not investing in 10 more!

Definitely worth the wait!!!
Pre ordered these back in April. Was skeptical at first cause they took so long. But it definitely was worth the wait. These pictures are huge! The detail and the colors are amazing. Can't wait to hook up my black lights and put them on my wall in my man cave.
