great read
The Things We Leave Unfinished by Rebecca Yarros is a sweeping, emotionally rich dual-timeline romance that explores the enduring power of love, the pain of loss, and the stories we carry through generations.Told across two timelines, the novel follows a poignant WWII-era romance between Scarlett and a fighter pilot, interwoven with her great-granddaughter Georgia’s present-day journey as she rebuilds her life after divorce. As Georgia works to finish Scarlett’s unfinished manuscript with the help of bestselling author Noah Harrison, the past and present collide in powerful, unexpected ways.Scarlett’s wartime love story is particularly moving, filled with sacrifice, longing, and resilience. Meanwhile, Georgia’s path to healing mirrors her great-grandmother’s in emotionally resonant ways. The alternating perspectives bring depth and poignancy, though the timeline shifts may feel disorienting to some readers.Yarros delivers a narrative that stirs the full spectrum of emotion—heartbreak, hope, nostalgia, and joy. The historical storyline stands out for its depth and impact, while the contemporary thread adds a layer of introspection and second chances. For readers who love deeply emotional, time-spanning romances that explore legacy, heartbreak, and healing, The Things We Leave Unfinished is a beautifully written and unforgettable experience. Be warned: this one doesn’t pull its emotional punches.

5 stars will never be enough - this is transcendent
I’m not sure I can accurately put into words just how I feel about this book. There are book out there that swallow you up mind and soul, you don’t observe the journey the characters take but you experience it as they do, and without apology these books grab every aspect of your being, pulling you into the pages so you are not aware of the passage of time and whilst the emotions they pull from you may make you want to look away you are unable to do so. This is one of those books and I am a changed person because of reading it.Told in alternating timelines Rebecca manages to seamlessly deliver to us the story of two once in a generation loves. The flow between past and present, between Scarlett and Jameson and Georgia and Noah falling in love was effortless. The insane chemistry that sparked between the characters, the heartfelt moments, the love that just bled from the pages, the loss, the twists that left me stunned. It all creates a beautifully written masterpiece that is a true transcendent reader experience.I went into the book expecting to shed some tears but I was not prepared for how emotionally destroyed this book left me and I was in absolute pieces. My heart felt ready to leave my chest and the tears would not stop. Rebecca has written a flawless book that encompasses what a classic or romance novel should be. I’ve never read anything like this and I don’t think I ever will again. This is a love story for the ages.

I’ll be honest…I skipped a few chapters
I’ll be honest, I skipped a few chapters. While it features beautiful writing and a deeply emotional love story, the constant flashbacks didn’t work for me at all in the end. The narrative is split almost evenly between past and present, and just as the slow-burn romance in the present gained momentum, the timeline would switch, making me feel disconnected from the point of the story, which in my opinion was Noah and Georgia. Although it had caught me in the beginning, I struggled to stay invested in the 1940s love story after a few chapters. After setting the book aside for a few days, I decided to skip the remaining flashback chapters, which made the reading experience much smoother. So, while I’m giving this a 3.5-star rating. The present-day storyline follows Georgia, the daughter of renowned romance author Scarlett, whose own love story remains unfinished. Newly divorced and dealing with family issues, Georgia isn’t exactly in the best headspace to handle romance. But she agrees to let Noah, a writer with a talent for writing emotionally heavy books, finish her grandmother’s love story. Though Noah has never had a lasting relationship, Georgia and Noah unexpectedly begin to connect as they work together. This wasn't my first time reading something from this author, but it gave me mixed feelings, Rebecca's work thusfar that I have explored has blown me out the water, while every author has a hit and miss, this one was a slight miss for me. Her writing is compelling, and she knows how to pull at readers’ emotions and there are some powerful moments here, but the dual timelines here throw me off completely. I personally prefer contemporary romances, so the constant back-and-forth between timelines made it hard to invest in the historical love story, had it been a seperate book, I would have given those chapters all my attention. That being said, I was overall satisfied with the way it came full circle for Noah and Georgia. If you enjoy historical romance, you might appreciate the dual timelines more. This does not mean I did not enjoy this book. Noah and Georgia's storyline was something of pure persistent and love. A locked down Georgia and a "what will be will be" Noah balance each other out almost perfectly.
