I love my little Raphael, just wish he didn't arrive in a box big enough for a microwave. Seemed a bit silly, that. But the statue is wonderful!

I love the statue but is so small! I would have bought another one if I had known it would be so small. Now, I have to think of buying a larger piece. Thank you

Like one of the other reviewers here, I am not religious, however I do have a deep spiritual reverence for archangels and angelic imagery. I appreciate what they represent. Part of my veneration for them comes in the form of researching the history of angelic mythology and how it has changed throughout time. This includes how they are depicted in various forms of religious iconography. Most of the time, Raphael is shown in his Greek Orthodox incarnation, carrying a crook or a staff which symbolizes his connection to healing and guardianship of travelers. However, in much older texts, we see Raphael carrying a spear or a sword and acting as both a warrior and guardian, much like Michael. It is quite difficult to find statues which depict the warrior aspect of Raphael v.s his more peaceful forms, so I was pleased when I found this particular sculpture by Veronese Design. I already own several pieces by Veronese, including a very beautiful Pegasus statue and an absolutely fantastic statue of Michael drawing his sword. Although this statue of Raphael is far smaller than those, standing at about 3 1/2 inches tall, he is still just as exquisitely detailed as the larger pieces in my collection. Veronese never disappoints. The way he has been sculpted is a fantastic callback to traditional religious paintings and sculptures. His stance and expression of determination is powerful, while still retaining the grace and flowing movement one would expect of an ethereal creature such as an angel. I am 100% pleased with him, in a word, he is glorious. I will say two things however- if you purchase him, take care that you pick him up carefully when dusting or moving him. The spear is very delicate and could easily break if too much pressure is placed on it. The second thing I want to say is- at some point, production for this statue was altered slightly from the promotional images shown (and differs from some customer images as well.) In older images of the statue, the wings are more drawn back, as they are in the promotional picture, and seem to use a slightly different mold. More recently produced versions seem to have wings that are drawn forwards and flare out more (the same mold as the Michael statue of the same scale seems to have been used for the wings on this version of Raphael) As you can see, I have one of the more recent versions of the statue where the wings are held forwards. I love them, and they look gorgeous, but I wanted customers to be aware of this small detail in case they are disappointed. (I am not disappointed- in fact I like them better this way!)
