Outstanding coffee for 1, easy to use and clean.
I bought this to use in addition to my electric drip coffee maker. I drink 1-2 mugs of coffee every morning and while the electric drip makes acceptable coffee it is more suitable for brewing larger pots. I buy whole bean coffee and grind my own beans (my next investment will be a burr grinder). I am not a coffee aficionado but I like a good fresh cup of coffee - my favorite beans are Eight O'Clock original. I saw the Chemex for the first time on a friend's social media post and was intrigued. I did debate purchasing the larger Chemex, but decided that for larger groups/company the electric drip would work better and therefore purchased the smaller unit for my daily use. I did watch a few videos before I tried it the first time and that was helpful. The coffee it produces is wonderful - it is full of flavor and has no bitterness. This model uses the half-moon filters, I do not find them difficult to use. Obviously this takes a little more effort than flipping a switch on an electric drip, but for me it is worth the effort. The difference in time/effort for me is that I have to add the water in 1-2 batches since it doesn't drip quickly enough for me to add it all at once. Note that the most you can pour into this model is 2 cups of water (2- 8 oz cups) - I suppose it is called a 3 cup because most coffee makers assume a 'cup' serving to be around 6 oz - but it is just right for me. Since there is no burner to keep the coffee warm, I usually heat my second mugful in the microwave which works very well, there is no bitterness after reheating. I wash my unit every time I use it, it's not difficult to untie the leather strap, remove the collar, clean it with a bottle brush and set it aside to air dry. The glass is dishwasher safe but since I don't run my dishwasher every day and can quickly wash it by hand that wasn't a big deal for me. I have found that I use fewer beans since purchasing the Chemex because I rarely throw any coffee down the drain - first because it tastes so good and secondly because I make only what I can drink.

Great taste and clean way to get your coffee
I have enjoyed using the Chemex coffee brew system. I did have a Keurig, but I felt like it was never clean, and there was no way to clean inside of it. I was concerned that was what was causing me to have additional allergies and issues with my health. Lots of research I found Chemex. Having the system all glass, I’m able to clean it thoroughly each time. I got the 3 cup size, which is perfect for just me to use. I have tried the half filters as well as the folded filters. I recommend the square pre-folded filters because they do not have a seam where the grounds can escape. You just have to add an additional fold for the 3 – cup size. I also got a stainless steel electric kettle. This is a great combination. If you are concerned about if your Keurig or coffee maker is fully clean, I highly recommend this product. It is very easy to use and the coffee taste great. The only thing I don’t really like and wish was different. Is the wood band on it. As you can see from the photos, it gets worn down after getting wet through the washes. The leather knot is too hard to undo each time so I don’t untie the knot anymore. I tried untying it a few times but it is hard to get back on tight enough. They need a band of some sort that does better with washing instead of wood— or something easier to remove.

Brewing coffee truly is a art
I'm trying to live a more toxin-free lifestyle, one of the things that I have done to do this is get rid of my plastic Keurig machine. I replaced it with this pour over Chemex. Little did I know it would improve many different things for me, including: The overall taste of my coffee, before I was buying pre-ground at the grocery store. I have since stopped and started buying a whole bean called purity and then I grind it down myself then pour it into this Chemex. Coffee tastes so much more better, it literally is like a art of its own. I use paper filters, pre wet them first. Boil up some water in my bodum kettle and then pour a little bit over the top to let the gases release and then I start pouring little by little until it reaches the little dot on the on the glass, the little dot on there lets me know that's a full cup. Cleans up well, super aesthetically pleasing to see it on my counter. Love the sound of the coffee dripping, I have no problem waiting just a little bit longer to do it this way than the , I have no problem waiting just a little bit longer to do it this way than the automatic coffee machines. Because I know that the way that I'm doing it is the healthiest way possible for my body.

Perfect size Chemex for one person
I've previously had the standard size Chemex and have a large double wall glass french press that I also really like. But I was looking for a simple and attractive option for when I'm making coffee just for myself. I recently switched to decaf for medical reasons but still love the flavor of coffee, my partner still prefers regular caffeinated coffee, so a smaller size brewer made sense for me.This Chemex is the perfect solution for that - it makes about 1.5 standard coffee mugs of coffee when filled to the bump indicator on the side. It's pretty easy to clean and has a wide enough opening to allow a soapy bottle brush for cleaning. The glass feels sturdy, haven't dropped it, but since it's small it's a bit easier to handle too. I prefer glass pour-over setups because I can more easily see how much coffee I've already brewed and avoid overfilling (I have a kitchen scale but can't be bothered to be THAT precise early in the mornings).I bought a couple reusable fabric coffee filters from a different seller designed to fit the size and shape of this chemex and they work great. Clean, smooth coffee flavor that brews fairly efficiently, no bitterness and minimal acidity which is my personal preference.
