A Wowza of a book!
A wealth of wonderful style ideas and classic designs...Why don't people design like this anymore? Items of clothing were exquisitely made and designs were so incredibly unique. Presentation was excellent and the quality of printing (which sometimes can be wanting...) was perfect. Love this beautiful book.

Just ok
Nice illustrations but somewhat of a rehash of other books that I own on fashion illustrations.

Inspiring
It's hard to do this book justice in a review. Quite simply, this book, The Fine Art of Fashion Illustration, depicts the magnificence of fashion and the history of fashion illustration. Just about any page you turn to is an artwork to itself.Having appeal to everyone- from student to the connoisseur/master artist, this book delivers a lavish, but discerning and passionate review and analysis of fashion illustration. Focusing on the past 400 years - Robinson and Calvey, masterfully lead us on an extraordinary journey through the ins and outs of fashion illustration history.Fashion magazines have, historically acted as a kind of manifesto of the artists times - a platform upon which many artists shared their collective visions. They had a didactic function, reaching far beyond mere fashion. While today, fashion illustration and fashion magazines are as much about advertising as art, originally the fashion magazine held a position that could be described as integral for the development and flourishing of fashion itself - the fashion illustration and the recreational qualities that lie at the heart of this milieu. The Fine Art of Fashion Illustration, explores theses themes and more, with the authors, Julian Robinson and Gracie Calvey, leading the reader on a journey through the social and artistic evolution of the fashion illustration. The stunning collection of illustrations displayed here are dazzling. Many rare and beautiful originals from their private collection, this book is clearly written from a lifetime of experience. The bouquet they hand us is both exquisite and scented - this book is a rare and educational gem - we are invited to explore an often overlooked and underrated side of fashion - the illustration. It is the womb where all fashion creation first reaches the light of day. As much as the fashion item itself, the fashion illustration is an art-form in its own right and an integral part of the process of design. This enchanting book has taught me the importance of fashion illustration and its history, revealing the skill and passion of this process. From the designer to the artist, from publication to the public- this book explains it all, with passion and and captivating love for the subject. It's one of the best books I have read in years. An asset for any student and an aesthetic luxury for the appreciator.

Terrific value
A fantastic book, exceeded all expectations - Hundreds of classic illustrations from Tudor times, with a large section on on the heyday of fashion illustration, the 19th century. Modern examples are a wonderful selection, although I wonder why Erte was not represented.
