Just as good as the high end brand
As an ASE master tech with 39 years of professional experience, I am the odd duck. My colleagues sink themselves into debt buying their tools from the Big 3 tool trucks. (I won't name the brands). I take the frugal approach and buy what I can afford from whoever has a good deal. This is why I am retiring in 3 years with no debt. My colleagues are forever in debt to the tool trucks.Since I work on large trucks, I have never needed a piston ring compressor for engines used in cars or light trucks. I was overhauling the engine in my grandson's truck when I needed a ring compressor for a Chevrolet V8. I bought this figuring it would be worth it even if I only use it once. It is a very nice set and looks exactly like the ones offered by the Big 3 for a couple hundred dollars. I was very impressed with the design and quality. I may one day need it again. Who knows? I am happy to have it

Caution! Potential catastrophic engine damage!
Serious oversight in finishing this tool. Every one of the many different size sleeves in this kit has very sloppy spot welds that are jagged, sharp, and hazardous to you rings and pistons. I bought the set thinking “how bad can they be”? Worse than I could imagine. They were returned immediately without even attempting to use them. These welds (see pics) will gouge your rings, and most likely the pistons too when you try to slide them past.. in fact, they are protruding so much, that they will snag up and prevent the piston/rings from a smooth entry into the cylinder. Of course with the slightest gouging of the rings or pistons, will come catastrophic cylinder wall damage. Don’t try to save a Buck here. There are far superior ring compressor’s for just a little more dough out there. ( I ultimately bought a Lisle 19000 take-apart for my motorcycle rebuild)

Perfect for Classic VW boxer engines
Could not find the special tool for classic VWs piston rings, glad I found this kit, the right size is included in it and the whole box is costing less that the hard to find Empy ring compressor, plus it arrives fastYou'll need to file down the edges as they are very sharp and will most likely leave nasty grooves on your pistons and or cut your fingersVery useable (after filing) tool for a great price, the pliers are solid, the rings themselves bend fast at the part you grab them with it and will probably break after bending them back a few times too many, I suppose...The rings come in a very greasy bag, good corrosion prevention, with instructions printed on an oil proof sheet, very clever!Good deal for the occasional engine rebuilder , not recommended for intensive useAmazon wants me to rate the Suction Power of this item.... Yes Amazon, you suck

Very cheap pliers
Chinese junk. It broke after I got one piston install . This thing has cheap tack welds barely holding together. Trust me don’t buy this trash

lots of sizes for value.
The range of this set is what I really needed. I work on a lot of different sizes of small engines and needed the big range that this kit has. Right now I have only used one of the pieces, but I know that between my son and I, we will use a lot more of the kit.I will edit this review as I use more of the pieces.Thank you.

Nice tool
The media could not be loaded. I’m looking for a bike mechanic for a long time. Glad I got this good one with good price. I have replaced the rear jug on my Harley with this tool. And it needed a ring compressor that would fit under the jug, and be able to be removed easily. This will work on just about anything from the top as long as the piston diameter doesn’t exceed the maximum ring size by too much. No burr in the ring. Great kit so far!

nice set, but missing the smallest band
I only received 13 bands, it's missing the smallest one which of course is the one I need for an engine I'm rebuilding at the moment. Im not very happy about this purchase.
