Beautiful but Unparticle Design for a Seagate Hard Drive.
This is a Seagate hard drive with the LaCie brand on it, it indicated on the back of the hard drive itself because Seagate brought LaCie.Beautiful design that very similar to Apple's anodizing. Although the extremely sharp edges give stunning glare, but it also very easy to scratch other surface and it does not have the non-slip mat, which also makes the hard drive inconvenience and vulnerable. It needs to install a software before you use it the first time (included), which is a software that helps you format to one or two hard disk partition to either or both FAT32 (for Mac, Windows, and Linux) or NTFS (Windows). The transmission rate is at an average of 102MB/s for my 7200RPM sata3 desktop hard drive. In addition, the warranty isn't accurate, which I emailed to LaCie with a proof of purchase, it responded me within 12 hours and fix the warranty date, I guess that was pretty good customer service. There aren't many options of USB 3.1 Type-C mobile hard drive in the market yet. Just for the information, the USB3.1 and Type-C are two different things, the USB3.1 is a type of transmission technology and Type-C is a type of socket introduced with 3.1. Officially, the USB Type-C is part of USB 3.1 generation, however, some brands tend to play tricks on words, which those come with the both Type-C socket but with USB2.0 or USB3.0 transmission technology, in that case, the transmission rate would not be any higher than USB2.0 or USB3.0.

Good Drive, Awful Cable, Horrible Customer Service
I purchased this drive in early June of 2016, to use as a Time Machine backup for my MacBook. It was one of the only USB-C drives out on the market, so there aren't many choices. The drive itself is super-slick in appearance, and as of now (two months later), it is still doing what it's supposed to do. After ONE use of both the USB-C to USB-C and USB-C to USB cables, however, the cables stopped working. Imagine my surprise when I tried plugging the drive in on my second day of ownership, and it appeared as if the drive stopped working!I contacted LaCie support, and they were prompt in response. They said:"This is regarding the concern which you reported us about your drive. We understand that your facing some issue with USB - C cable and you want to replace the cable. Please be informed that Seagate does not replace accessories separately. Hence, we request you to contact any e-commerce websites or any third party electronics shops to buy the cable and try connecting the drive with new one."I told them how unhappy I was about a one-use "accessory" that would cost at least another $20 to replace. They said they would forward my feedback... and that's the last I heard about it. This is why I'm writing this review -- I rarely review any products. If you're thinking about buying this drive, then be prepared to buy a new cable. In fact, just buy a cable when you buy the drive, it'll save you some time.

Nice looking hard drive that gets the job done
If you're looking for a good external USB-C hard drive for your MacBook then you don't have many options without using an adapter. This works great and is a fast hard drive. It comes with both USB C to USB C and USB A to USB C cables and it looks great. The edges are rough rather than smooth though and would likely scratch up your MacBook if you put them in the same bag together. It also does not seem like it'd take bumps or drops well.

Four Stars
Does have sharp edges as others have complained, but it's otherwise convenient to use with my USB-C Macbook Pro.

I use it to maintain a clone of my hard drive
I'm using this drive to clone my hard drive of my MacBook Pro 2017. Using Superduper!, I get "effective copy speeds of 65 MB/s.

this hard drive has been great so far
Though the edges are a little sharp, this hard drive has been great so far. Transfers a GB in as little as 5 seconds. It also includes software for those unfamiliar with partitions and want to use the drive for both Mac and Windows.

Smooth, quiet
This LaCie is so much better than my previous WD (Western Digital). Silent, the backup runs in the background without any noise.
