Great story and addition to the series :D
4.5-5 starsThis was a great story and addition to the series. I have to admit that I was a bit leery of this story because...well, it's about Gwenvael. But surprisingly, I enjoyed this story so very much.Dagmar is a rather plain woman that makes up for her looks with a very high intelligence. She's the only daughter of her father, the Reinholdt (aka a fearsome Warlord in the Northern territories). Dagmar is extremely skilled with animals, particularly canines, and she has total control over the raising and training of her father's war hounds. Dagmar hasn't had much luck with men and her main hope is that when she reaches 40, her father might see her as a spinster and give her a small house of her own near his keep.Gwenvael is dragon shifter and brother to Feargus & Briec (from previous books in the series). Gwenvael isn't a fighter and prefers to spend his extra time bedding just about any woman (dragon or human) who's willing. Gwenvael tends to stick his foot in his mouth but is basically a good guy.Dagmar's family is facing a fight with an uncle that wants her father's title and keep. Dagmar is very learned and is excellent at finding out information and she finds out some info on a threat to Annwyl and the twin babies that Annwyl is currently pregnant with. Dagmar sends a message to Annwyl (in the name of her father, the Reinholdt) asking her to come and meet with her to bargain for the info. Annwyl ends up sending Gwenvael to talk to the Reinholdt and it goes badly, with Gwenvael sticking his foot in his mouth big time. He embarrasses Dagmar which causes her to withhold the information he needs. Gwenvael doesn't want to admit his failure to Annwyl, so he has to plot and plan on how to get back into Dagmar's good graces so she'll deign to talk to him again. It takes a bit of work but Gwenvael is able to convince Dagmar not send him away and eventually, to work with him on negotiating an alliance that would help both sides. As part of this, Gwenvael and Dagmar end up travelling together and trouble does cause them to spend more time together than planned and they come to trust each other. Dagmar ends up going south with Gwenvael and is a great help to Annwyl and her court. While she's there, things between Dagmar and Gwenvael continue to grow and eventually turns into something they both know they want more of and when more trouble comes their way, it just solidifies their need to be with each other. Thankfully, while the situation looks pretty bad for a while, things work out nicely and are pretty much solved by the end of the story, allowing Gwenvael and Dagmar to start on a HEA together.I greatly enjoyed this story. I thought Dagmar was a great heroine and she was a perfect match for Gwenvael. Dagmar is so smart, cunning and manipulative....I really wish I was that crafty! Gwenvael is a good guy, even with his tenancy to be a bit of an idiot at times. I really liked that he didn't fight the feelings he had for Dagmar once he recognized them and didn't bemoan his lost "playboy" status. Overall, I loved the characters and I thought the story was great and very engaging so I'd recommend this story/series.* note - I listened to the audio version of this story and the narrator did a good job.

A Very Funny Book Highly Recommend!
I had a feeling Gwenvael's story would be good but I have to admit I laughed so hard I almost cried at most parts because I mean come on the book starts off with Gwenvael the Handsome and all his accomplishments and how he had ran for his life several times in his life and list of all the people he had ran from and why, mainly one being fathers who discovered Gwenvael in bed with thier daughters LOL but the reason for his running this time was because his sister in law was so sensitive all because he asked her should she be this big so early on in her pregnancy LMBO but anyways so Gwenvael gets sent on a mission by Annwyl to make up to her for calling her fat and he goes to the Northwest to meet someone called The Beast to try and get the information he has to save Annwyl and Fearghus' children but when Gwenvael gets there after hearing all these tales of the mighty beast the terrible and terrifying beast he ends up meeting a young tiny human wearing spectacles and looking more like a little old spinster then a beast he does what Gwenvael does and falls out laughing infront of everyone and then the beast stands over him and tells him he can go back home empty handed because she will not be giving him his much needed information and that his queen can die and how that was much more funnier to her. So Gwenvael has to prove to his family that he's not a total loss and find a way to convince The Beast to give him the information he so desperately needs. I highly recommend this book you wont be disappointed with these two devious little devils LOL

Autobuy series -reread and then reread again
As all Dragonkin series, this tale is hilarious and perfect in all important ways (world and character building, story flow, romance etc). What separate this tale from others is chameleon nature (literally and figuratively) of Gwenwael. Most of the time, most of tales are predictable to a certain degree. This scenario however, I haven't seen coming. It gave our hero more depth than I expected of beautiful, most handsome of all dragons π. To top it all, the Beast is more than perfect match in wit and cunning. The chemistry was lacking in the first part of the book though and this tale has great competition in other tales from this series so the rating is 4.5 stars. Still, it is on my reread shelf and I highly recommend it. Especially if you're in need of some mood pickup and a lot of fun.

What a Dragon Should Know
This author is FABULOUS!!! I've read all her other series writing as Shelly Laurenston. She has mastered the art of writing great series while also giving the reader a wonderful individual story. It is time for Gwenvael the Ruiner's tale. He is the mischievous one in the family. Now we see him on a mission. He must be himself. In glides Dagmar, the Beast. Looks are so deceiving. She looks as if she wouldn't hurt a fly. She is more than a match for Gwenvael. They face danger at almost every turn. They find unexpected allies and strengthening bonds with family and friends. This is one of the best books I have ever read. It is not a stand alone and the series should be read in order. On to the next book in the series!

Oh Gwenvael. How I love you.
This the the third book tin the Dragon Kin series and it is a Laugh out loud, sexy ride. Gwenvael The Handsome is on a mission for Queen Annwyl. He is looking for the Beast who turns out to be Dagmar Reinholdt the only daughter of the Reinholdt. She is quite possibly the most devious person and all of the North lands. Dagmar and Gwenvael set out on a crazy adventure to save not only Queen Annwyl so to be babies but Dagmarβs family as well. It is so much fun watching Gwenvael meet a woman who he has no idea how to deal with. Sit back and enjoy this wild ride.

The plot thickens
This third book in the Dragon Kin series is all that you expect from G A Aiken. The story jumps forward seven months, Queen Annwyl is heavily pregnant with twins and can't really do much, so asks Gwenvael to head up to the Northlands to find out what the Beast, Dragmar Reinholdt, knows about her and her babies. This is where the story of Gwenvael and Dragmar begins. Gwenvael is a very jovial character and this is represented brilliantly in the first part of the book as he does his best to impress the Northlanders.I'm pleased to say that this book is not solely about the developing romance between Gwenvael and Dragmar, there are a lot of stories going on throughout that develop and are moving the series into another direction. It is clear to see that romances are blossoming and plots are thickening.Where the story didn't focus on Gwenvael and Dagmar's relationship, it was showing the developing relationship between Dagmar and the rest of the Dragon Kin. This makes me wonder if Dagmar is going to be an important character in the follow up books, as she is already described as the politician, her shrewd negotiation skills will be put to good use for the Kin with whomever they meet, be it human, dragon, witch or possibly something else. This book is dark in places due to the nature of the development of the story, however, there are still the comic and steamy scenes, albeit not as many as in the previous two books. I did feel that some parts of the book were dragged out a little bit, which is why I gave it 4 stars instead of the usual 5.

"Dragon Kin" series book 3
Gwenvael the Handsome, the aptly named golden dragon has quite the reputation as a serial womaniser, in fact he is even known as Gwenvael the Ruiner in the harsh Northlands. Yet it is to this location he heads on the bequest of a very pregnant Annwyl; she the only one to see beneath his flighty exterior to trust him to negotiate with The Beast; a Northland warrior who holds valuable information which could save her life.Gwenvael's first meeting with The Beast is far from diplomatic. After hearing of the horrendous reputation of such a mighty warrior he cannot contain his laughter when he meets her; a small bookish woman who could hardly inspire such tales of ferocious deeds. Of course it goes from bad to worse for Gwenvael; as an insulted Beast aka Dagmar refuses to reveal the information he needs. Seduction will clearly not work on this woman so Gwenvael must hunt for her weaknesses, but instead finds in Dagmar an equal in cunning, manipulation and political intrigue. The most arrogant and sexually rampant dragon in this series so far has finally met his match, and it's a chaotic, sweet, funny and red hot courtship as Gwenvael the Defiler (as Dagmar so affectionately calls him) and The Beast fall in love.Dagmar and Gwenvael complement each other perfectly and their verbal sparring certainly adds to a cracking, adventure packed story line. Gwenvael is initially the only person able to see behind Dagmar's sedate exterior, yet rather than warn his family and friends not to antagonise her, he instead sits back and thoroughly enjoys (as does the reader) watching Dagmar find any hidden weakness and exploit it to destroy an opponent. This woman is not a warrior like Annwyl and Talaith; the heroines from the previous 2 books, but she is just as deadly in her own quiet way.The whole dragon family is back and waiting for Annwyl to give birth, more is learnt of Izzy (Talaith's daughter) and other dragon kin are introduced. A war is brewing, an assassination must be averted and even more Gods and Goddesses walk the earth; interacting with significant characters found throughout this series. There is action all the way, plus plenty of humour, passion, and unexpected moments which really tug at your heart, making "What a Dragon Should Know" easily my most favourite book so far in this fabulous fantasy romance series.

Wowπ
I love this series sooo much!! Dagmar was bloody brilliant, gwenvale as swoon worthy and as stupid as ever. Lots of side story's and beginnings of books to come there is plenty to sink your teeth into. This book certainly puts you through the ringer at times your crying then the next thing you know your laughing. Also we see lots of different points of view which is just great π. I think I'm going to stop this review here or I'll rant all day so I'll keep this short and sweet "buy this book " π it's just as good as all the rest.

Brilliantly Entertaining
I have to say, I don't think I've ever read a book that has made me laugh aloud as often as this one. I read the previous books in the series and enjoyed them, the first left me curious as to what came next, the second hooked me, this third... well... I'm likely to read it again and again for the level of entertainment it provided me.The characters are excellent, and though the main concentration in this book is on Gwenvael and the newly introduced character of Dagmar - it also continues to follow the previously introduced characters and their particular involvement within the plot line. Because of this I never, at any point, found myself bored or losing interest. In fact, as the story went on the more desperate I became for more. I didn't hesitate the buy the next in the series. Its wonderful to find a medieval/fantasy series that also makes me laugh hysterically at times (and truly, I did), whilst also softening the developing main plot line (and smaller interwoven plot lines) with romance and emotion. It's also rare to find a series with such a heavy romantic leaning that I'm positive will attract a range of readers, in both age and gender. There is nothing typical about this series and even if it's a genre and theme you've never taken a liking to previously, I'd really recommend you give it a shot - I did and I'm so terribly glad.

Brilliant
A great book from word one. Dagmar, the heroine, is a treat to learn about. She is plain and a female in a mans world but she is mighty. All Shelly Laurenston's (G.A. Aiken) heroines are strong and that plus the humour is one of the things I enjoy about her books but Dagmar is by far my favourite.Yes, she is manipulative and sneaky but it is for the good of her family and her people.
