Is the 2020 model tri band or still dual band like the 2016 model?

Google Wifi 2020 is a dual band Wi-Fi mesh system. It has same capabilities with the 2016 model but with some design changes and improvement. Here are some:

- Google Wifi 2016 has a USB-C power jack but Google Wifi 2020 has a Barrel jack.
- The Google "G" logo on Google Wifi 2020 point is engraved, not printed.
- The Google Wifi 2020 is sustainably designed with 49% of device plastic part weight is made with recycled material.

I'm setting up verizon internet connection, and my question is, can this google wifi-mesh replace verizon/fios home router g3100?

Yes it can. I have a Verizon router too and turned it off so as not to interfere with the Google WiFi mesh (you don't want to have two networks/NATs). I don't recommend these as they are not working properly for me after having them for a year and don't seem to be supported properly by Google as they are sending updates that work with their newer Nest Wifi. Best to use ero 6.

If i buy the 3 pack, only 1 connects to the ethernet cable and modem? the rest just receive the signal? is 3 ok for my 550m2 house ?

Yes. Google Wifi needs to be connected directly  to your modem with the Ethernet cable to set it up and broadcast your Wi-Fi network. Ideally, one Google Wifi can cover up to 1,500 sqft. But where they are placed, the layout of your house, and physical obstructions like furniture can impact the total coverage. I have a large home and 3 pods do not cover it. Can we buy another set to work with existing pods?

You can. I have the 3 unit set and then added one more. Pretty easy to do.
