KILLING EVE: DIE FOR ME

A fabulous third volume
Please ignore the complaints from the action junkies. While this episode of the drama may not be filled with cool and sexy assassinations in every chapter, it is a tour de force in character study. It is about the complicated relationship between two women and an exploration in whether it is possible for a psychopath to have real feelings or to have the ability to feel love. I didn't buy this book based on whether I want be titillated by a relation between two women, but because the story of Vilanelle/Oxana is immensely compelling and I wanted to see where it went. This is a book I found difficult to put down and, if I have any complaint, it's that I finished it too quickly. It is a masterful work, and is a must read for any fans of the series. As a note to the author, Luke, why were you OK with the TV series diverging so far from your writing? It's not the same story. I urge all viewers of the TV series to read these books. It's isn't the case that you know what happens because you watched it on TV. It's very different and well worth reading the books as well.

A thrilling climax to the series
The third book in this series was originally launched under the name ‘Killing Eve- Endgame,’ which is what I pre-ordered. I suppose that the publishers, or the author, changed the title to leave room for yet another sequel.I loved the way that the characters continued to develop onwards from the first two books, especially Villanelle and Eve. The sub-plots also continue to flow from the authors pen or keyboard in a way that makes the story easy to read and almost impossible to put down even when daily tasks in the real world come calling. The unexpected kept springing out of the pages and hitting me between the eyes. From the beginning of book one, I have loved Villanelle for her coolness and craziness. There is no way intentionally cross her. I almost envy Eve for her part in their relationship but I was continuously fearing for her safety. The closer you get to a woman like that, the more precarious your life becomes. Each book in the series is better than the previous. Book three builds to a great climax.I have watched all three seasons of the TV series which, in my opinion, went in the opposite direction. Season three came as an enormous disappointment. The books did it for me and I would recommend all three of them. Great writing!

Not even close to the standard of the first two books
This is the third, and final, book in the series that began with Codename: Villanelle. When I first read about that book, I was very keen to read it — and was not disappointed. The second book in the series, like the television show Killing Eve which is loosely based on the books, was something of a disappointment. And this third volume is, as expected, not even close to the standard of the first two books, and is no match for the Red Sparrows trilogy by Jason Matthews. The plot is absurd, the characterisation only skin-deep, and characters die and are reborn again with such frequency that there’s hardly any menace (why worry about a character dying when they might easily reappear in the next book, or even the next page?). Not recommended.

Somewhat different to its predecessors
The final novel of the Villanelle/Killing Eve trilogy differs considerably from its predecessors in terms of tone, style and structure. The main reason for this (probably as a result of the influence and success of the ‘Killing Eve’ programme that is loosely based upon the novels) is that the emphasis most definitely shifts from Villanelle to Eve. ‘Codename Villanelle’ was much more from the perspective of Villanelle with Eve coming into the story relatively late. Its sequel, ‘No Tomorrow’, was a more balanced, but this book is totally from the point of view of Eve Polastri. The main change being that, unlike the previous two, this novel is written in the first person. This shifts the emphasis somewhat from assassinations and conspiracies to the romance and relationship between the two of them. Whereas the other books focussed more on Villanelle being confident in her world, this one explores Eve being uncomfortable in it. The cat and mouse between the two is replaced with them struggling for survival together.Inevitably this also leads to quite an alteration in structure with the narrative following Eve continually. Therefore, the quick changes of scene and circumstance and the episodic sequence of assassinations are gone. As a result, the black humour and elan that characterised the first two books, and was extensively picked up by the TV series, has been replaced with a darker, more tense and serious tone. It all makes for quite a different read.As it stands, this novel is far more divorced from the television series than the previous two. It also has more to do with the Twelve and their agenda, although they remain in the background.Overall, it is a less fun but more gripping than the previous two books.

Fell flat, disappointing third book
Before this book came out, I had read the first two and kept saying “I was happy with how book two had ended”, meaning there DIDNT NEED TO BE A THIRD BOOK. None the less, there was, and I was excited. Then I read the book and while I enjoyed it I was slightly disjointed about the whole thing.Eve’s character went from being an inquisitive and highly interesting being to just someone’s girlfriend, someone’s girlfriend who’s character in the last two books was just thrown away and could only be described as slightly clingy and sad.Villanelle went to being a psychopath to wanting a domestic life with Eve and I didn’t think she would want that, she did have good moments including the scene with poo.I felt the sexual scenes between them was a bit clunky, which I’m not blaming the fact that the writer was a man, but also I am.The non-binary character was so awkward and it felt like the author was just trying to tick a box.The end was a clique, and kinda basic and boring for their characters.I did enjoy maybe 80% of the book, but it missed the mark sometimes.
