A moving follow-up to the "Alive" story
I watched this documentary when it first aired a few months ago on the History Channel, and decided right then to buy the DVD. I'm fascinated by survival stories and I've always been particularly interested in this one. I remember vividly when it happened and was being reported in the news, I've read the book "Alive" (more than once), Nando Parrado's book "Miracle in the Andes", and also enjoyed the film that came out in the 90's. This documentary is mainly narrated by Parrado (who with Roberto Canessa was the hero of this event) and his heartfelt memories and emotions are extremely moving, and come through loud and clear because he lived it, and that is something that a professional narrator could never convey. Very interesting sequences show expeditions back to the site of the crash so you can see how things look today, and then follow the escape route, showing exactly what Parrado and Canessa were up against. The photography is beautiful and enhanced by interviews with experts in various fields throughout, to provide technical information about survival, technical mountaineering challenges, etc., emphasizing just how difficult things were for these boys. The DVD has some bonus features which weren't aired on TV which are great, including additional interviews, artifacts from the crash site, etc. If you're interested in survival stories and in particular this one, you can't go wrong with this DVD.

Amazing Story!
100% true story of a plane crash in the mountains of Chile carrying a soccer team in the dead of winter. The survivors were actually forced to result to cannibalism to survive and they actually did survive. Inspiring the way they handled this act they had to do to survive. So glad I became aware of it. Also an absolutely amazing epilogue for lack of a better word which made it even better.

Shocking
Wound up here after watching a bit of Showtime’s Yellowjackets series, which shares a similar history albeit fictional. This on the other hand is brutally non-fiction and shocking to watch and relive with the survivors. Crazy they even survived.

The Will To Survive Is Sometimes Stronger Than Reality
I have watched this film three times so far. I creeped my mom out by watching it with her. It has about every emotion a human can go through. There some eating of human flash in it, for survival, that tends to push people away from the simple heroism that these men and women went through. There is tremendous strength in their spirits. The film has a dark side, as there is a dark to side to any human experience, but the bright side is there too. A human's will to survive, as survivor Nando points out in the document, is sometimes stronger than reality.

Amazing film
I watched this film after reading the book "Miracle in the Andes", written by Nando Parrado, one of the rugby players who survived the crash of the plane in 1972. I remembered the news back then when they reported the crash of the plane, and that there were survivors, but I never really knew the details of how they were found. The story is so unbelievable that I'm really haunted by it. In short, I recommend that people read the book first, then watch the film, because after reading the harrowing story you will become even more blown away when you watch the film and see the unbelievable obstacles faced by these boys who were so determined to live that they absolutely performed miracles. Parrado is an amazingly humble man considering what he accomplished, and he'll become your hero. One of the best documentary films I've ever seen.

"I Am Alive" is terrific!
For one who has read every book and article on the 1972 Andes plane crash and watched every movie and tv show about itt, I still found this film to be totally fascinating. It contains the personal accounts of several of the survivors who explain the horrible ordeal the people went through nearly 40 years ago, now. The DVD was made about 10 years ago, but it is still quite relavent today. I recommend this film to anyone---those familar or unfamiliar with the true story of the '72 plane crash. It is both insightful and emotional.

Told As It Was
Compelling Documentary on The 1972 Andes Plane Crash Disaster Told As It was by The survivors. I found This Documentary riveting from start To finish featuring interviews with The survivors most notably Nando Parrado. anyone coming into contact with This story will be aware That it was Nando along with another survivor who climbed out of The mountains and in a sense rescued The other 14 survivors some 70 Days after Their plane crashed High in The Andes Mountains Friday 13th October 1972. The Horrific ordeal The survivors went Through is unthinkable Though it happened. using recreations stimulating The actual crash and interwoven with interviews from some of The remaining 16 survivors The Documentary puts you right in The middle of The Disaster. I was fascinated To hear The actual Plane Transmissions heard just prior To The fatal crash and finally To see actual footage of The survivors being rescued have To admit brought Tears To my eyes. Through it all The Documentary does have a happy conclusion allowing The viewer To see Nando now The family man. Tragic That he lost is mother and sister in The crash Though fitting That at last he has found happiness. if you have read The book seen The movie This Documentary will make The perfect companion for anyone literally seeking more on This story. interestingly The Disc comes with a wealth of extras full photo Gallery of The photos The boys actually Took Themselves During Their ordeal. An in Depth interview with Roberto Canessa Roberto was The other survivor who climbed out of The mountains with Nando Thus saving The other survivors. one poignant Extra on The Disc is Return To The Valley Of Tears as some of The survivors journey back To The actual crash site Quite moving. have seen various retellings Documentary's on The Andes Disaster Though I have To say This is one if Not The best retelling of The story you will ever see Told as it was by The people who were There. in some ways we should Never forget The Tragic events That occurred Friday 13th October 1972 This Documentary is really a True Testament of The Human spirit. I really can't recommend This one enough.
