Originally we were going to try this with a Mac based on other comments here, but instead we tried this on a few Windows 10 PCs (fully up-to-date) to see if we ran into some of the same issues. Thankfully, we did not. It installed just fine and captured content perfectly (at least, as perfectly as such a resolution coming from old tapes is going to get you). Two out of three tapes backed up before the VCR decided to stop working properly and ate the third tape to shreds. So the third tape was no fault of this device, giving it a solid win so far. It will be awhile until we get additional media to test it with, but if we find anything different with our results, we will update with details.

This capture device works well. However, it comes with a software names ArcSoft Showbiz. On Windows 10, the program does not work. It persistently gives the error code "Cannot record video. The current content is copy-righted", even when you're just transferring home videos. There is a video on youtube that shows how to override the problem but it doesn't work for Windows 10, so what you end up with is a useless piece of hardware. I have reached out to the software team and they're now asking technical questions, but I would definitely pass on it. To the extent and degree that it requires all of that work and effort, and having lost planned time to get this done, I'd look for something else. The software is a piece of crap. Don't bother with it. Id' give it no stars if I could...

Don’t be fooled by the cheap price tag on this, I have converted almost 100 hours of footage from old VHS and Hi-8 tapes with this device. Has not failed me once in the past year. It has continued to work flawlessly through a massive project of converting family videos. It is super easy to use for converting. I didn’t use any of the included software for creating DVDs, (I downloaded a free software that had more options.) But the tool for converting is perfect!I would definitely recommend and buy again if there was ever a need. Thank you!

Had issues at first getting software installed, but worked around it. My Win 10 PC didn't auto-recognize when I plugged in USB. I had to navigate to CD folders and launch the 2nd setup.exe manually, no big deal. First run through didn't have audio, but I tinkered around and figured that out. Started getting the error about my videos being copyrighted material, even though they were home movies from the 1940s. Found the answer in another Amazon review (make a change to the CaptureModule.ini file). Made the change, and now things seem work work fine. Seems to be a quality product physically - looks and feels sturdy. Even though it required a little ad-hoc tinkering to get working, seems like a great deal for the price.

If you're on the hedge about this product maybe I can tip you a bit...I'm a normal avid Amazon shopper that was in need of an analog video product that would work with my MacBook. I did a bunch of research and review reading and purchased a different product. The other product failed miserably at working for capturing the old video from my camcorder. I then purchased the Top-Longer video grabber as it was next in line and shazam it worked like magic. Easy to install and use software and simple plug and play with no jitters in the digital recordings at all. I only leave feedback comments on products I feel require it and this product does as I'm so happy that I was able to convert all 200 hours of my home videos to digital without a single hitch.

I'm a Mac user. For those of you who are still reading... I don't know if it's the software or the hardware, but I ran into a few issues using this. It seems like any time I closed the software, I had to restart the whole system to get the system to recognize the dongle again. Aside from that, it worked pretty well for dumping some old VHS home videos to digital files.

I've run this on OS X 10.11.6 and it works! Quite well for the price, actually. The software crashed on me a couple of times, but we're not talking about a several hundred dollar archival setup, so some bumps in the road are entirely acceptable.Inside the package at the bottom is a CD-ROM, and on the backside of the paper sleeve are several URLs. Two of them are for hardware drivers (Win/Mac) and the last is for software. You're given a serial on the same sleeve. Worth noting, all you're going to get is 480p. This is a limitation of both the tapes and the connector. It's still a huge help for moving over old VHS tapes before underpants gnomes carry them off.In an effort to recover knowledge that would soon be lost on deteriorating magnetic tapes, I nabbed one of these. It works!

Disappointed in this product. I couldn't get it to work. Things were just not as the so called directions "said" I would definitely not buy this since there are so many better and easier to use products. That said if you like to futz around and make things work, this might work for you. But I definitely recommend Elgato Video Capture. I subsequently bought this and it works well and extremely easily and intuitive.

This device was so easy to set up and use. Importantly, it lost no signal whatsoever from the old VHS player to the computer (OSX). I have tried to capture old video before using older devices and some signal strength is lost en route - leaving the copy that is a little wobblier and granier than the original. This copy was simply perfect and worked first time. For apple users, your file will save in .mov format file which is a large file type (about 4 GB per 30 mins) but it can be easily exported afterwards to .m4v (mp4) or other file types via Apple's Quicktime. I am thrilled that a device this affordable and simple can save my old home movies. Also, every aspect of the picture and sound can be adjusted for import so you can increase contrast or colour during the capture or reduce sharpness for the more granier old movies. Delighted with this.

Abbiamo acquistato questo prodotto per acquisire le immagini, da trasmettere in treaming con OBS, relative a una videocamera Canon XA10, abbiamo dovuto contattare il produttore (disponibile e rapido nella risposta) per poter scaricare i driver aggiornati per WIN10, una volta scaricati il dispositivo è stato riconosciuto dal notebook e anche da OBS, l'acquisizione delle immagini è, per le nostre necessità, di ottima qualità.
