## Overview

The Apera Instruments Premium Series PH60S is a professional-grade pH meter featuring a food-grade Swiss spear electrode designed for accurate measurement of solid and semi-solid foods, skincare products, and water solutions. It offers ±0.01 pH accuracy across a wide range (-2.00 to 16.00 pH), with automatic temperature compensation and calibration. The device includes smart high/low alarms, a large tri-color backlit LCD, and comes as a complete kit with all necessary accessories in a portable case, making it ideal for chefs, fermenters, and quality control professionals seeking reliable, fast, and precise pH testing.

## Description

Apera Instruments PH60S Pocket pH Tester simply measures the pH level of food samplings such as cheese, sushi rice, meat, fruit, milk, yogurt, sauce, and other solid/semi-solid samples like cosmetics, and solid growth media in a reliable and quick manner (Also works great for general water solution's pH measurement). The probe adopts Swiss LabSen sensor technology, featuring a spear glass membrane with a long life reference system (polymer electrolyte), built-in temperature sensor, and a double-junction structure, which makes the probe more durable and have a longer service life . Up to 3 points (4. 00, 7. 00, 10. 01) of auto. calibration with 0 to 50˚C auto. temperature compensation (ATC), 0. 01 pH, 0. 5˚C accuracy with -2. 00 to 16 00 pH range, auto. recognition and reminders of stable values improve reading consistency, saving you the trouble of guessing when to manually hold measurement (auto-hold function available). The product is CE and RoHS certified, and is manufactured under an ISO 9001: 2015 certified quality system.

Review: A fine quality ph meter with quick and accurate results. - This is a very nice ph meter that is not difficult to calibrate. The quality is great and the accuracy is also great. The instructions to calibrate it were easy to read & didn't take long to do. The overall testing results matched what our ph test strips results showed. This puts us at peace of mind knowing what we ferment will be safe to consume with quick digital results since we ferment frequently. This product is worth getting if you want to have precise numbers for big batches or recipes that you want to keep for future. You will need to buy distilled water so that you can rinse off the tip after each use but other than that it is a premium brand and I think it is worth the price.
Review: Works well and its storage cap system protects the probe and prevents it from drying out - My first ph meter for testing dairy - using it to test super priobiotic yogurts. Was torn between this brand and another well known brand, but went with this one because of the kit, the cap with an O ring and small sponge in the tip that provides wet storage and protection of the probe even when it is on its side. Preventing the probe from drying out seems to be the key to a longer probe life. The Apera storage cap system makes this easy to do. The kit also comes with laminated instructions which are handy. I had been struggling with the paper test strips…never could get a precise reading. Love that this has a 2 decimal point read. I was nervous about the calibration process, but it turned out to be very easy. I’ve used it several times so far and love it. I draw my solution out with a sterile pipette and place it in a small shot glass…insert probe of the meter and very quickly have an accurate reading. Their support/customer service is great too. I called to get some spare sponges for the storage cap (comes with 2 extra), but they don’t sell them. They advised using a piece of any sponge…I found that a piece of small sponge hair roller works well. I would definitely recommend this meter. Hopefully it will hold up well over time.

## Questions & Answers

**Q: Can this be used to check PH in salsa**
A: Absolutely. I use it to check the PH levels of my fermented hot sauce for shelf storage safety.

**Q: Does this work to test the pH in sourdough and final bread dough?**
A: Hello Yes as long as it's the one with the spear tip electrode for easy penetration. Other wise you have to make slurry with a portion of dough and deionized water. Then you can use a normal meter. I have the Water Meter and so far it has been one of the best meters I've had. Better then way more expensive ones I'm not allowed to name here. Hope that helps Denny at www.DMSeeleysTools.com

**Q: do you have to recalibrate after swapping probes**
A: Yes. It is critical for synchronizing the meter with the probe.

**Q: Where is this manufactured/made? Which country?**
A: It is made in China. Apera has been focusing on the development of water analysis instruments and sensors since 1991.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Go for the spear tip. It's great for sourdough bakers.
*by J***U on October 9, 2018*

I'm a baker and got this spear probe for easy pH measurements of my sourdough cultures and doughs. Just stick the spear into the dough and you get an instant and stable reading. It's easy enough to calibrate with the included buffers and instructions. It also compensates the pH based on the temperature, and displays that as well, though it's slower to stabilize on that value (especially if you're used to a Thermapen). But that's no big deal. There's also a backlight for easy reading. Here are the downsides of this meter: The tip is always supposed to be sitting in the KCl solution when not in use (just like most pH meters). This means the probe has to be stored upright, but the case stores it horizontally. I really wish they would have designed a vertical case for this purpose. So I end up having to store the probe outside of the case. I bumped it once by accident and it fell to the floor and the batteries came out. There was a slight damage to the battery connector plate, so it will no longer lock in place. It still works with the cap firmly in place, but still, this would have been prevented if they had a case for properly storing the probe upright. The amount of KCl solution included is a joke. Seriously, for a $200 meter, they could have given a bit more! But I still love this meter and it makes me a more informed baker. I'm also a biochemist, and haven't seen a better spear meter for this price.
