I found the alcohol burner to be slow and difficult to accurately control. I invested in a Butane Burner which made the brew time much faster, as it burns hotter than alcohol. The flame can also be very precisely contolled, unlike the alcohol burner. I buy cans of butane, packaged by Burton, at a camping supply store. The butane burner I found works really well and fits nicely under this particular Hario Siphon. It is available on Amazon: Wall Lenk BT 4601 Bella Tavola Fondue/Chafing Burner for $46.00 A very worthwhile investment. I do heat the water to just before boiling and then transfer it to the Hario flask which speeds things up even more. As for the filters, I used the cloth filter for several months, and recently ordered the paper filters. I have to say, I prefer the paper filters now....of course they are just thrown away after brewing, unlike the cloth filter, which must be cleaned and soaked in water every time it is used. I didn't mind doing that to begin with, but paper is easier. Also, as they are a little pricey on Amazon, I did find that you can use cheaper, percolator style filters. Check it out. One more thing, the metal filter holder that comes with this Hario only works with the cloth filter. If you decide to use paper filters, you have to get a second metal filter holder. If all this sounds like a lot of trouble, it really isn't. The coffee that I make every day with this is so good, it's all a labor of love for me. If you clean the filter that comes with the Hario daily with soap & water, it will last a long time. This schedule is contingent on a mill grind of coarse or between medium & course (which I use). Oui ça demande de l'entretien et un peu plus de nettoyage que de jeter une capsule en plastique, mais le goût du café n'a rien à voir, en plus du régal pour les yeux pendant la préparation. A combiner avec le moulin à café de Hario pour faire les choses à l'ancienne. C'est mon rituel du matin maintenant. Un conseil: utiliser de l'alcool à brûler dénaturé (principalement éthanol) et surtout pas de mélange pour lampe à brûler sous peine de noircir le verre rapidement. Autrement un petit réchaud à fondue ou un mini brûleur au butane (pour fondue également) permettra d'éviter toute trace de suie.
