Just draw a straight line (to the length you need) using a ruler or any straight edge. Next determine where you want your angle to begin. Your protractor has a small hole at the center of the flat side - set this hole at the place you want the angle to begin and align the outer ends of the protractor (zero and 180 degree) with your reference line. Make a mark (pen or pencil) at the center hole. If you go straight up from there you will see the 90 degree indication, make a second mark at that position. Next draw a straight line (with a ruler or the flat side of the protractor) from the center hole mark on your reference line up to the 90 degree indication. You now have a line exactly 90 degrees to your reference line. Need a 45 degree angle to the right...again determine your starting point (along your reference line) and mark it, then lay the protractor so the center hole is directly over that mark and the straight edge of the protractor is parallel to your reference line.
