So hot, in fact, that I'd wake up in the middle of the night because of it. And I'm generally a pretty good sleeper. I tried putting some random mattress cover on the mattress, to see if that would help, but it made no difference. I was at my wits' end, so I bought this thing. At $100+, it better work, I thought! The 30-day guarantee convinced me, despite the two negative reviews.I opened it immediately upon receiving it, and I must say I didn't notice any kind of smell. And I was looking for it, after reading these reviews. I even sniffed it. :)I put it on the mattress right away, and awaited sleepy time. Finally, the moment of truth came. I got in bed. It seemed ok. Not ridiculously cold or anything. ANd lo and behold, I slept through the night. I didn't feel overly hot at all. And the next night, it was the same, and the next, and the next. I think I've had it for about a week now, and I have to say, I'm convinced. This thing works! I dont know what it is--maybe it's the cotton. But I dont even care. I'm happy.I have yet to wash it. Maybe I'll update my post when I do. But for now, I'm sleeping cool and happy.EDITED REVIEW (9/8/13)I wanted to update my review because I finally washed this and it COMPLETELY fell apart. I followed the directions--wash in cold on gentle, tumble dry on medium. It survived the washed intact (I have an old school washer), but when I dried it, parts of it melted, leaving patched and holes. The thing is worthless now. I almost wish I'd washed it when i first got it, so I could have returned it right away, although who knows, the seller (Cooling Mattress.com) might not have given me a refund. I've emailed them today hoping there's some kind of warranty on this stupid product, but I'm not hopeful.SAVE YOUR MONEY. Don't buy this worthless piece of junk.And to be completely honest about the cooling effect of this thing, after a while, I did notice that I was still sleeping hot. The days I was cooler, it must've just been cool in the house. The bad: Expensive (for what it does)!!! Stay cool for about one hour.
