Midea Cube 50 Pint Dehumidifier, 4,500 Sq. Ft, Smart Control, ENERGY STAR

This dehumidifier has been a fantastic purchase for our home. We put it in our kids' room to help control humidity while they sleep, and the difference has been noticeable. Before using it, they would often cough throughout the night, especially with that lingering wet cough. Since setting this unit up over six months ago, those issues have improved significantly. The unit does a great job pulling moisture not only from their bedroom, but also from the hallway and even the room next door when we leave the door open. Just be careful not to overdo it. If the humidity gets too low, you may end up dealing with dry air and occasional bloody noses. Maintenance is incredibly easy. Emptying the water tank takes just a few seconds, and I've had zero issues with the app or smart controls. It's been reliable, effective, and simple to use from day one. For the price, this was an excellent investment, and I'm seriously considering buying a second one for the other side of the house. Highly recommended!

Edit: on my second cube and am still having coolant issues. These things just don’t last. Save your money and get a unit that will actually last more than a year. These are a piece of junk Cube worked great when I initially bought it! Yes it’s a bit loud, yes it heats up - but both of these I expected. What I didn’t expect was that after sitting in storage for only 6mo, it would be completely useless and would stop pulling water from the air! From the looks of it, the compressor just have lost its charge and just been leaking all its refrigerant over time. I have no idea what to do with this now. I’m incredibly disappointed. Update: support told me there was nothing they could do now that I’m out of warranty. So I started taking apart my unit and found that there’s a galvanized strip holding the condensate tubing that’s been completely rusted through. I purchased another unit that was only used for a year and it has the same exact issue with the strip completely rusted out (images of both attached). My unit must have been leaking refrigerant from the very start because the rust only starts half way up the galvanized strip (meaning it was only half full of refrigerant when I got it) I’m not sure if the rust caused the refrigerant to leak, but if that wasn’t the cause then it absolutely eventually will be. It seems like these were only built to have a shelf life of a few years which is very frustrating

After spending some time looking for it and never finding it until reading another Amazon review, if you have a model with a pump, the pump will not begin or turn on until the bucket indicator/plastic window is nearly full. It does not pump all the water. It pumps for a few seconds to get the siphon effect going then turns off. The thin grey tube that came with the unit drains pretty slowly as it's a small diameter hose. But it's definitely set and forget, which is nice. It won't pump/siphon all the water out. There will be 5% ish left in the bottom that the outlet hose can't reach. So you'll need to dump it manually occasionally to avoid that remaining water getting overly gross. This is my first dehumidifier, so I have nothing to compare to. But I am amazed at how much water this little guy takes out of the air! I have it in my basement, in the Mid Atlantic, in Dec and Jan, and the bucket (50 pint Cube) fills once a day or once every other day. I can't imagine how much it will pull out in the summer or spring rainy season. Easy to get working, easy controls, easy to use the app. I use the original Midea app and didn't install the MSmartHome app it suggested to upgrade to. It lives in the basement so noise is not an issue. It's quiter than a window AC unit. It's about the noise level of a box/dorm floor fan set to medium. I did try to order this months ago on Amazon and it never showed up. I tend to think that was more about the seller than Midea. So far so good. ... UPDATE: after running this dehumidifier 24/7 for a year and a half, it's still going strong. No issues at all. I now run this unit with direct drain. The pump works great (see explanation above) and it works great with direct drain. The only problem I've had was user error. At one point I couldnt get the filters out and pulled a bit too hard and slightly broke one. Turns out the condenser froze over. That has only happened twice in 1.5 years of 24/7 running. So everyone make sure you don't see ice inside the the back of the sides (easy to see with a flashlight throught he holes) if the filters seems like they are stuck. Just turn off your device and let the ice melt/drain overnight and fire it back up. In an age when all appliances seem to suck, built to planned obsolescence, and not last long, this product does what it says and does it well.

The dehumidifier itself worked well. It pulled a lot of humidity from the air & kept the room around 45% humidity. This model was equipped with the pump which I thought would be a helpful feature. It was not helpful which is why I returned this unit. I thought the pump did not work at all but after some setting trials, it turns out the draining pump only worked when the bucket was full at level 4. As other reviewers have noted, it does not completely empty the bucket & in fact leaves quite a bit in the bottom (a couple quarts). Also it is extremely slow. Since I can roll the bucket to a sink & empty it using a pitcher in a fraction of the pumping time, I felt that feature was essentially useless. The app worked well with this model. I had no issues setting up and using the app. I recommend the dehumidifier but not with the pump feature which is why I returned it & give it 3 stars. I then got the model without the pump and it’s worked fine from the start. Noise level is less than my old (non Midea) model so I have no issues with that. I did have problems with the app not registering the water level in the bucket. It took a few cycles of the bucket filling and being emptied before the app finally started showing the bucket water levels. I’ll give it 4 stars for now. Longevity of the unit is still a question.

I purchased the 50-pint Cube _with_ pump. Weirdly, this machine is less-expensive than the identical model without the pump. I made sure I could use it on the continuous-drain mode (I connected a 10’ garden hose), and am trying it out connected to my nearby HVAC air-handler’s PVC drain. Will probably run a separate line/condensate pump to avoid overloading the drain during this very humid mid-Atlantic summer. Just a proof-of-concept install for now. Be aware that configuring the Cube to continuously drain requires pressing physical buttons on the machine itself within 3 minutes of connecting to AC. Wisely, the app isn’t allowed to switch this. Anyway, to gain good gravity drain for the hose, I placed the unit onto the upturned bucket included with the machine. (I couldn’t get continuous drain to operate with the unit placed in the bucket as it normally would be… guessing the Cube detects the bucket and only allows direct filling or pump drain.) For belt-and-suspenders operation in my attic, the Cube-on-upside-down-bucket (to gain gravity-feed drain height) is placed on the heavy-plastic lid on top of a very large plastic storage bin (the black ones with the yellow lids) with a hole in the lid just in case something backs up while I’m away from home. Fingers crossed it doesn’t. Meanwhile, as others note, this is a very well-made, somewhat heavy machine. I’m using it to dehumidify a fully-sealed attic. If this machine lasts I’ll get another to replace the less-capable dehumidifier in my basement. At some point I may move up to an Aprilaire or similar whole-house dehumidifier but so far, so good. The app is very useful, showing the machine is functioning, various settings, and offering a humidity reading, despite preposterously small type. (Why are ALL apps… Nest, Midea, Eufy,et al) so fond of microscopic gray letters on a white background?) I’ve found this machine so far to be well-made, with sturdy plastics and genuinely useful capacity to dehumidify. I’ll wait before buying a second just to be certain it’s capable but first-impressions are very positive.

An interesting idea, having a high capacity condensate reservoir, but it didn't work out as I had hoped, and the unit lasted less than two years, in a place where typically I get three years out of a dehumidifier in this price range and performance range. It worked well while it worked. Burning a bit more power than I had hoped, but basically on par with others in its class, it dehumidified a bit more effectively than the last one I had. The unit is not loud, but it is not whisper quiet. Maybe about the level of a casual conversation when it is running. I used the condensate pump, but unlike every other dehumidifier I have owned with a condensate pump, this one still drips condensate into its (in this case fairly big) main condensate reservoir, and THEN pumps from that to where you want the condensate. It ends up pumping less frequently (and more volume per cycle) but it means a large exposed condensate bay that still has to be manually emptied at the end of the season. I never figured out how to force the pump to run, so I had to carry the large and at least half full at the time reservoir to a tub (I don't think it ever dropped it below about 1/4 full with the pump). Otherwise the pump worked well and kept me from having to manually empty the reservoir every day or so (most others have a relatively small reservoir and need emptying every few hours, but most others with pumps don't use their main reservoir at all and collect condensate in a smaller internal reservoir to be pumped out more frequently, plus automatically empty that reservoir within a short time of turning them off). I set it up for this year and encountered a usual failure mode: it starts up and runs, but appears to have a low refrigerant condition -- it does not effectively dehumidify and draws less power than usual, despite running the compressor and fan. Letting it run in this state in 60% humidity for a week collected zero condensate in the reservoir -- it normally would have collected enough to cycle the pump several times. I do not use 'smart' devices (consider them spyware) in that mode, but this works fine without that extra stuff. The controls are simple enough to use directly and provide good feedback about the settings and what the unit is doing at the time, only requiring reference to the manual for a couple of the icons that were not obvious on the display and buttons.

This product has a serious defect. The humidity sensor did not work on either of 2 machines that I purchased on Amazon. I need a dehumidifier because the moisture level in my house is in the 60s and 70s. With both purchases, the humidity registered 30-35 from the moment I turned on the dehumidifier, and it never changed beyond that range. I also had to run the machines on "Continuous" mode - otherwise it would shutdown because according to the sensor the moisture level was in the 30s. Even though the Midea Cube actually worked in terms of drawing moisture from the air in my house -- it did collect a couple of gallons of water every day -- it is not acceptable that the humidity sensor does not work and I have to run it continuously. I also do not recommend this product because it is very difficult to empty the water collection bucket unless you are a strong man -- every time you have to empty the water bucket, you have to lift off the compressor which probably weighs 30+ lbs, and then the big bucket is very awkward to transport when full of water. I gave the Midea Cube two chances, thinking the defect in the first one was just an aberration, but I had the same experience both times. I don't know why this item is so highly rated in consumer reviews. I was able to return both purchases, but repacking this big awkward machine was a major pain. Don't make my mistake. Stay away from the Midea Cube.

I've had this a year. It always works. Turns uninhabitable rain forest humidity into comfortable air. Sensor isn't the most accurate, no different from any other I've tried. I keep a hygrometer on the other side of the room. They rarely match, but the difference is consistent. Longevity can't be known. A year without hint of trouble is a good omen. Get the pump. Or a hefty helper.
