The group's first compilation album, made up of six songs from the first album and eight from Ricochet, assembled and released by Liberty Records in England (where neither of the original albums had appeared). A fair representation of the original Nitty Gritty Dirt Band, though serious fans would be more advised to pick up the complete albums. "Buy For Me The Rain" is here, along with some of the more rousing cuts off of the first LP. (British import) ~ Bruce Eder, All Music Guide

Worth every penny
A great collection of early NGDB music. I only wish the 1st album was available so I could hear the rest of the good old songs

Where is the 1st LP?
The previous 3 reviews are absolutely correct... the 1st Nitty Gritty Dirt Band LP needs to be reissued on CD. I even wrote the groups management and asked why the 1st LP has not been reissued. The answer I received as somewhat disconcerting, "we have no knowledge of anyone reissuing the groups 1st LP on CD anytime in the near or distant future". I am wondering if it isn't tied up with legal issues. I just can't imagine that the group would not want their 1st LP, which is a total classic, reissued for their fans. Makes no sense. But then again look how long it took to get Fever Tree's 1st LP reissued. I guess we can only hope!

Why only half of the picture?
This is a compilation that contains half songs from The Dirt Band's first album and half from their second. Both of these albums are very short and would have easily fit on one disc. Everytime I listen to it, it just annoys me that I can't hear the other half of the first album. Some of the most interesting songs, such as "Euphoria", "Melissa" and "Crazy Words, Crazy Tune" were left off. I wish I could find the first album in it's entirety on compact disc.

One of my favorite albums.
I listened to this album repeatedly as a child. These are some of the early songs from this group when they were a self proclaimed jug band. An excellent album. After they reformed they became a straight blue grass band, their style changed, but the first two albums and this compilation were great!

Where are the missing songs?
The first Nitty Gritty Dirt Band album was a classic. It needs to be re-issued in it's entirety. I have been looking for it for years. I already own their second album(CD) "Ricochet" so buying this CD would be a waste as I am only getting half the songs of the first album and some of the best were left off. Anyone who feels the same should also write a review and perhaps we can get the producers to give us one CD with their first two albums together in their entirety.

This is an excellent album which I'd been wanting to replace for some ...
This is an excellent album ('Pure Dirt' is the correct title) which I'd been wanting to replace for some time having had a vinyl copy previously. I first heard Dismal Swamp on the Liberty Sampler, 'Gutbucket' released in 1969. The musicianship is extremely top notch with an assortment of instruments and a wide variety of tunes.Really good to be reacquainted with this again.

Pure Gold Dirt
Bought this on vinyl way back in the sixties. Been looking for it for a long time. Country rock at its best.
