A pancake lens for medium format
In a lot of ways this the big brother of Fuji’s newest FX27mm. It is unpretentious, light weight, does not attract attention (much) yet is optically quite good. There have been a few published reviews that will tell you the lens is not perfect but I certainly did not see anything in the resulting images that I could object to.All the functional parts seem good to go: AF is quick enough, adds little to the weight and bulk of my GFX50R, aperture ring stays where you set it, clever little lens hoods that does it’s job AND it is claimed to be weather resistant but I have tried it out in the rain yet.Although it is “only” an f3.5 lens, I’ve had no problem using the thin DOF the separate the subject from the background. Actually, if one is new ti MF (I’m expanding from my X-series equipment) you need to watch for situation where you need lots of DOF as that is a bit trickier to obtain than with smaller formats.Weight: coupled to a GFX59R the whole thing weighs about the same as my X-H1 with fx16-55 f2.8 attached. Manageable, but it may not be my choice to take on strenuous hikes! (Lugging one of the 100mpx bodies with a zoom must feel like carrying a bowling ball. Glad I went for this minimal confoguration.)

It’s absolutely lovely!
I purchased this lens specifically because it’s a 40mm equivalent focal length. If you have never shot with a 40mm (eq.) lens it should be of note that framing wise it’s closer to 35mm then 50mm. Wider but not to wide, and closer to the human eye then both 35mm or 50mm (eq). This lens is fast for a gf lens, and sharp as well. The 3.5 aperture creates bokeh that was far more lovely then I expected and hasn’t hindered my creative process in any way. This lens is perfect for street shooting or environmental portraits, as well as studio work. The closest focusing distance is the one pitfall on this lens, creatively it would be nice to be able to get just a little closer. Distortion is a non issue which is pretty standard with all 40mm (eq) lenses. Vignetting is a non issue on this lens. Lens is quiet and precise as well. Price wasn’t a factor in my purchasing decision, but it was an added bonus as this is cheap for a gf lens. All in all it was a worthwhile investment.

Great Everyday Lens
This is the perfect walk around lens for the Fuji GFX System. I use with a GFX 50R and it pretty much lives on the camera. The smaller size is unobtrusive when in public, but this lens also works great in the studio. I highly recommend giving it a try.
