A "tiny bit thinner than pencils"? A pencil is over 1/4 inch thick. These are supposedly 1/8 inch thick. How thick are they really?

They are the equivalent of a sucker stick.

Has anyone actually measured these to confirm they are 1/8", and not 3mm being sold as 1/8"?

Anyone know if these would work to make a embroidery thread holder to put on my wall for 5000M cones?

Absolutely. I used them to make a wall mounted thread holder for my wife to hang in her she shed! I drilled the holes into the base at an angle, dropped a drop of wood glue in, then stuck the dowels cut to appropriate length into the hole.

I don’t know for certain, but my guess is pine. Not anything high grade.
