Good Service
Original unit supplied was faulty; however, GadgetsGizmos offered to send a replacement unit that they had tested, together with a free SD card. This was accepted, and proved to work as it should. I would describe this as very good service.

I gave five stars to this product because for $28 it worths evey penny.I have been looking for a way to archive the video from the Directv DVR for a very long time. This cheap SD recorder allows me to save 7.3 hours 640 x 480 video on a 4GB SD card.Setup is easy but has a small issue make sure you have it set properly between Pal or NTSC system. I have to remove the power cable 3 times until I can see the menu onscreen. The remote control has a very slow response. You have to be patience on using the remote control.Bottomline for this price you cannot expect too much. I did a research for a few hours and struggle between other choices range $80 to $180 for similar product finally decide to give it a try on this device. Technolgy changes so fast I am sure in a few months it will be out of date. But who care for $28 and now I can record my favorite OnCourt tennis tips from the tennis channel then save it on my computer and iphone for watching. I am so happy. I will highly recommend this to anyone do want to spend too much on such toy.

The worst piece of junk I bought in 30 years...
This could have been such a great product. Wanted a very light simple flash recorder for airborne NTSC camera. Make it simple SanDisk! (After the SanDisk flash drive I bought 3 years ago installed software on my computer without asking, I had been avoiding them since.) Now I know for sure I will never ever buy a SanDisk product again.AVOID THIS PRODUCT. (UNLESS YOU ARE CURIOUS ABOUT HOW BADLY SOMETHING CAN BE DESIGNED - OR JUST ENJOY AGGRAVATION)Where to start? With the hard plastic clamshell packaging that requires a heavy duty utility knife? With the minimal documentation? With the lousy remote in which you can never be sure if the battery is in contact. With the horrible user interface that requires a remote in the first place? With the thing asking you to set the time and date every single time you power it up? With the absolute need to have a monitor to be able to use it? With it taking forever to respond to any remote command? The fact that it does not output what it's recording while it is supposedly recording? The fact that it does not record my own (not copyrighted, not DRM'ed) Hi-8 mm tapes played on a Sony GVR?All it would have taken to get rid of the ridiculous remote is one more switch on this thing. Just a red momentaryswitch that would have said "Record". Get rid of the output, the on screen interface, etc. You would connect the input, power it up, hit record. The red LED would light, it would do its thing, then if you hit the button again it would stop, the LED would turn off. That's all! Just like one of those Flip Video things, but with an input connector instead of a camera. o'd then take out your flash card to play on your coputer. Who needs all the excess garbage if the thing does not do its primary function, recording, properly? But noooo... They had to time stamp the files, instead of just looking at the media and taking the next available number, etc... And so on...It's too cheap to return. I'll just toss it and keep the two RCA to 3.5 mm video in and out cables, which are probably the only quality items in the whole package. And this time, I really learned my lesson about SanDisk.

Takes a little work
I bought this device to convert some VHS tapes I need for class into digital, and then play them back on my iPod. The device works as advertised. I do wish it had an iPod preset, but the PSP format works ok. The user interface is easy and direct. There have been complaints about the remote and some of those are valid. The small remote is difficult and seems to have a very short range. Once I find the sweet spot, it works fine. Other sites have suggested replacing the battery in the remote and cleaning the optics to resolve this and I will try that. I have not used the IR emitter since it is not needed for my application. This is a very inexpensive device and it does the job. Don't expect too much and you will be satisfied.

Saving home movies
SanDisk definitely had the right idea with this straight to media memory recorder. Unfortunately this is either an early model or they missed the boat. The remote is hit or miss and selects twice per click most of the time. Starting the recording works well but you cannot stop it. So unless you have a small memory card and want to take everything until full (which is when it will stop recording automatically) then this is not the unit for you.I hope SanDisk has an upgraded model because this would be great if it could be controlled like a video recorder should be.The price was right and it was worth a try but this model is not worth even the cheap price.
