Simply Excellent.
Mark Twain's (Samuel Clemens) sharp observations of and satiric commentary on the San Fransisco of the early to mid-1860's are beautifully written and exceedingly amusing and entertaining. He rips, tears, and shreds the pretensions of the newly rich and slams, damns, and demolishes the rest. It is much better than a good read. It is a marvellous read.If one wants to see how the English language can be written to maximum effect, read this book. In the 1860's Americans still spoke and wrote in English. And no I'm not an American.
