“How good can these pencils really be?” I asked my wife, a professional artist who’s been searching for the best set of colored pencils on the market for as long as we’ve been married. “I won’t settle for less than the best” she told me, “and I need to give the Variance set a try.” Well, upon receiving and spending some time with our Variance colored pencils, I’m here to report that they’ve somehow managed to meet her impossible standards. My wife had previously used the Prismacolor pencils - which were fine, but would break when she put too much pressure on them. My wife is a hardcore illustrator who likes to get down and dirty with her pencils, so we are thrilled that we’ve found a new set with the brilliant colors you’d expect from a premium pencil set, but which also blend together perfectly and have quality and durability to match. After some heavy duty use, my wife has sketched up an amazing Game of Thrones picture for us to hang in our bedroom - all without one piece of lead breaking!Oh yeah, one more thing: the carrying case they come in is freaking amazing! For those on the go, it’s so easy to roll up the stylish pouch and feel comfortable knowing that the goods are protected. Absolutely perfect for those with a backpack, sketchpad, and thrill to get out there and draw! The set even includes a sharpener, so in the unlikely event you get some breakage when you’re out on the town the Variance crew has got you covered.Only time will tell if the Variance line supplants Prisma as the “go to” colored pencil for professional artists and those in the know, but they’ve already won over our household. Three cheers for the new kid on the block!

I certainly would never have expected to write a review for colored pencils, as I will fully admit to having thought a colored pencil is a colored pencil, is a colored pencil. However, after months of sharing colored pencils with my kids I thought I would make the investment into a nice set, and at least if nothing else it would give me a great excuse to tell the kids to bugger off. Well I could not be happier that I decided to do so. Not only did I get them incredibly quickly and in good quality, I was immediately blown away by the packaging and how truly compact the pencils come. They are easily tote-able wherever you might wish to bring them, and the canvas keeps them safe so you don't have to worry about breakage. The pencils themselves are very comfortable to hold and produce vibrant, smooth colors that are just beautiful. So very pleased with my purchase, and I will definitely be keeping the kids away from these!

Yes, Mr. Hayek, there is, at last, a pencil czar! I would certainly buy this set again, Full disclosure: I am this young man's father and I would probably buy them if they were a set of broken crayons. But my wife, who is more discriminating, has used them for intricate artwork and has found the set to have a wide selection of vibrant colors and fine, durable pencil tips. The carrying case is a real plus! Also my son will use whatever little income he derives from the sales to help pay off his student loan.

A nice enough set of colored pencils. Some of the colors don't blend as well as others, but they are a normally preforming colored pencil set..

A very colorful set of pencils that comes in a convenient case and the colors are true to what they seem. They also blend well using cross-hatching techniques. Excellent choice for a variety of uses! The arrival time was quick too. Highly recommended

Came fast and just as expected. The canvas roll is sturdy and I think it'll withstand lots of rolling up and out as my daughter uses the pencils. Pencils have vibrant color.

I ordered these last week and they arrived quickly and in great packaging. One of my kids actually said "looks fancy!" Packaging aside, they are great and are great for travelling. Even includes a sharpener.
